Innrt fender question on a 49
I have never taken them out or off of an AD truck so I have to ask.
Do the inner fenders serve any other purpose than to keep fender well debris out ? I need to cut into them for a project I am planning on and just want to make sure they do not server any other purpose.

They are the majority of the structure for the front end. By cutting into them I assume that you mean you need to trim them for clearance for Suspension or exhaust clearance and that is doable as it ia a necessity on many suspension swaps.

yes, to add to that, I cut my inners from bottom to top to clear the wider s10 radiator and the front end was really wiggly till I got them boxed back in

Joedoh is right on there if you do something like cut it out to clear a different radiator setup you have to build it back.
I've got two friends who built tilt front ends on their truck with no inner fenders but the fenders and hood were welded together and that stiffened it quite a bit.

Re: Innrt fender question on a 49
I just need to cut them out for the turbos on each side. I will leave the bottoms and tops attached but they will have a big hole at the front before the radiator support and at the rear for the exhaust down pipe. So much room in there with the camaro front end under it I am planning on running the exhaust through the fender wells outside the frame to a side dump before the rear fenders.

Make nice looking holes and roll the inner edge if you can. That should stiffen them back up and help prevent chances of cracking.
And take photos, lots of photos.

I made the mistake of cutting mine way too much and paid the price, It did weaken the front end and just had to buy new ones.

Under the hood room for turbos is a concern I have had when planning mine out..have you given any thought to mounting them in the bed? Granted I don't know a lot about the ins and outs of turbos but I know someome on here is doing theirs that way..just can't remember who..

Re: Innrt fender question on a 49
I doubt ill have room under the cab and I saw a tv show awhile back where they turboed a newer vette and put them just inside the rear bumper.. if I recall on the truck that guy had them in the bed and ran his pipe to the intake on the outside of the passenger side frame behind the running board, up thru passenger fenderwell and into engine bay at right front headlight..
