Question Eaton H052 Differential Oil?

'67 Chevy C20, Eaton H052, 4.11 gears. Trying to get this right:

* Correct capacity of oil?

&

** Do I need a friction additive/modifier like LS additive?

Factory manuals were written before synthetics and now also list with friction additive. I grabbed Mobile 1 Synthetic Gear Lube, LS 75W-90 before I realized what "LS" meant.

Re: Eaton H052 Differential Oil?

You don't mention a posi, so you probably don't need a friction modifier.

It's been long time since I had a HO52, so I don't remember the capacity.

Re: Eaton H052 Differential Oil?

Mine took exactly 3 quarts, and I used the same stuff you bought. "LS" works just fine in an open diff, btw.

fwiw, use Permatex 81182 with a gasket to seal it all up. It's made specifically to work with gear oil.

Just make sure it's GL-5 rated oil.

Yeah, I probably should have said that. You don't need it if you don't have a posi, but it won't hurt anything, either.
