Re: WTB lower Radiator Retainers 4core

Can't help with a pair as only have one, driver's side with good rubber cushion. Passenger (battery) side was rusted out badly. Can do pics if interested, $8 shipped for the single I have. Maybe someone else has a single to make a pair for you? LMK if any interest.

Lower radiator support mount. Hard to show detail of black items. Some rust pitting beneath cushion as usual but cleaned up well with bead blast, prime and paint. $8 shipped, don't have Paypal, money order or $$. Thanks,

Re: WTB lower Radiator Retainers 4core

Metal retainer measures 4 3/16'' outside edge to outside edge. I know it to be a true 4 row lower radiator mount, NOT for the smaller 2 or 3 row radiators. LMK, thanks.

Re: WTB lower Radiator Retainers 4core

That measurement is just the lower retainer or saddle the radiator mounts into sitting on the rubber cushion. The upper mounts are different with the same type of retainer or mount spot welded to the upper mount. Measure your saddle or retainer mounts you have now. Are you swapping over to a larger 4 row radiator?

Re: WTB lower Radiator Retainers 4core

Paul, are you working with a true GM 67-72 truck radiator or is it possibly an aftermarket replacement? Do the tank ridges line up with the bracket mount spacing correctly? The second pic looks to be the 4 row uppers. What do the brackets measure from front to back? What do your lower retainers or mounts look like now? " If " you are changing from a 2 or 3 row radiator and up-grading to a 4 row the lower radiator support channel needs a "relief" cut on the rear ward (engine side ) edge of the support channel. I had to do that to mine when I swapped from a 3 row to a 4 row as the 4 row lower mount hit against the channel. Not a BIG cut but just a small one to let the retainer set flat against the lower support channel. I fastened my lowers in with a couple sheet metal screws and then the rubber cushion, no problemo after doing that. Also, are you using new rubber cushions that have not been subjected to many years of being tightened? Hope this all helps, good luck.

Re: WTB lower Radiator Retainers 4core

Paul- I have a pair of NOS lower retainers and rubbers. I will send pics tonight or in the AM. Don't know if new rubbers would make it sit even higher? Is the lower radiator seating deep enough in the rubbers and are they hard as a brick? Like Ironhorse stated about the size of the radiator, measure the old one to see if same. It should have 1/2 to 3/4 clearance to insure adequate pressure on the radiator at all times. If it laid flat and no pressure it would be loose when the rubber conforms and settles! Thanks, Dan
