McGaughy's or DJM????

Hi guys, I come over from the 67-72 side of things, but I have a guy who wants me to lower his 81 C-10. I was looking at kits from DJM and McGaughy's and could not decide. I really liked the McGaughys 93150 kit.

What have you guys had good luck with?

He wants like a 5 to 6 in drop. Here is a pic of his truck.

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

do your self a favor an stay away from djm....cheaply made etc an I wouldn't do mcgaughys also.....I would do western chassis 2.5" spindles and 2.5" springs up front and belltech 6" flip kit with drop shackles and go with belltech drop shocks and pick up some shock extenders to correct the shock angle an take some stress of the mounts I had all this on my 84 but didn't have shackles I used 1" blocks

Western Chassis all the way. Mchaughys might be good but DJM is not for sure.

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

I just ordered mcgaughys but I've run them all at one point in time or another. I never had a problem with djm. Only one over ever had a hard time with was chassis tech. I went out cheap and bought that and it was junk. Had to be trimmed to fit

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

I bough the Mcgaughys kit and the front was rubbing the inner fenders. The 2" drop spring are definitely more than 2" and they are spongy. It looks great I just can't drive it with out tearing out the inner fenders.

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

there is a cpp drop spindle that allows for clearing a larger wheel. it didn't exist when i built my truck other wise i would be all over it. i would pair that with just about any 2" drop spring. just about all the drop kits for the rear are identical since you are just welding on brackets and flipping the axle and putting in a notch. buy your own nitro shocks. ridetech has a set that will last and look great. dont forgot to do the bushings while the truck is in the air. lowering a truck on bad bushings will result in terrible handling and tracking all over the road. IMO

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

The McGaughys 93150 is a very good kit. I've used it on 4 different C10's with no issues. I usually run Bell Tech Street Performance shocks and run a 27" tall tire up front.

20x8.5 might be 20x8 with a 255/40/20 tire which is 28 inches

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

I did not have a good experience with McGauphys at all their 2" drop front coil springs dropped my front end over 4.5" inches and the camber looked rediculous, their rear hangers and shackles are cheap and flimzy and need washers or spacer to align the leafs properly

they would not accept my return because it was more than 30 days

by the way LMC Truck sells McGauphys suspension parts they just don't tell you that, but when the products arrive they have McGauphys labels on them, try something else that is better quality

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

thanks for all the good info guys. I really appreciate it. even though this is not my truck I'm doing it to, I want it to be a nice ride and good the owner. I'm definately leaning towards western Chassie, but I will give the owner the western price and McGaughy's price. Let him decide. I will just try to push him in the better more reliable direction.

thanks

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

I was very pleased with DJM 3" drop spindles. Good quality and super tight tolerances. Their flip kit though leaves a lot to be desired.
I used western chassis for my flip kit with generic ebay shackles.

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

Another company that kind of recently sprung up (2011) and has been featured in some magazines is CROWN Suspension. they were featured specifically for their square body suspension kits. Being a smaller company you will probably get better costumer service and helping out the smaller company is always a good thing to do. they say lifetime warranties but i dont know anyone who has used them. Im going to use them to drop my 2015 silverado.

not really though.

Crown suspension includes 6/7 drop
spindle , spring , flip kit , notch , shackles , nitro shocks = $703.00

McGaughy suspension includes 4.5/6 ← biggest drop offered in a kit
spindle , spring , flip kit , notch = $580.99

DJM suspenion includes 5/5 drop ← biggest drop offered in a kit
Spindles , springs , flip kit , upper arms = $637.19

McGaughy is really the worst one. after you add in shocks and shackles in order to match crown it is most likely about the same price but not nearly as much drop. so inch per dollar is pretty bad lol

DJM doesn't give you a notch or shackles or shocks yet they give you fancy A arms which actually arent needed. Djm claims the c notch is not required but thats if your ok with having 3/4" of up travel. also doesnt give you as much drop as crown.

Crown gives you a big drop. the rear drop is adjustable because of the shackles so you can do a 6/5 or 6/6 drop if preferred. all these kits in reality probably cost the same once installed on the truck its really about the conveniance factor and personal preference on the drop height. if i could go back and start again i would go with crown. i personally have a McGauphy kit and it works fine but i had to buy extra pieces that weren't included. it would be nice to have everything arive in one big box and support an uprising american company.

IMO

my McGaughy suspension came out just fine. however i built my truck back in 2010 so its possible and likely that the product has changes since.

Re: McGaughy's or DJM????

to be fair i forgot to do research on Western Chassis

biggest kit offered is a 4/6 kit
spindles , springs , flip kit OR leaf springs , drop shackles , notch = $599.98

Seems like a good deal, gives you leaf or flip option, go for flip . still no shocks which will run another 100$ for cheapies and again not as much drop as the crown offers so inch per dollar is not as good. previous statement really only applies to those trying to get really low.
