BodyDrop Question...How do I go about it?
If I wanted to do a 4" BodyDrop...how would I go about doing it? I was thinking of completely taking about my cab mounts, and just mounting the cab on the frame...I know that's a DUMB idea...but I wouldn't drive it like that, I would just do that so it would give me an IDEA of how it would look if I did a body drop, ya know?
![]() But Really, exactyl how would I go about bodydropping a 75 C10? |

There are many ways to go about doing a "body drop" or channeling as it was once called. I want lay out all the details, just give you an over view.
You cut the floor pan of the cab, and bed around the edges. you lower the cab and bed X amount of inches to the desired height. Then you create filler panels to re-attach the cab and bed to the floor again. Of course you have to move your front clip down too, so that means every thing up there has to be cut and lowered too. Another form of drop is called "stock floor" body drop. Again, this can be accoplished in many ways just like above. The difference here is you trim a few inches off of the length of the frame, and lower the body mounts on the frame. Then you box the frame to add strength again. This allows you to lower quit a bit, and still keep the floor pan intact. Well most of it anyway.... Do a search on the net for body drop. You will find lots of pics out there...

If you would like, keep an eye on the Killer Ridez site. we are about to do a stock floor body drop and bag job on the newly be gotten Shop truck (78 Blaz). There will be plenty of pictures.

Personally I say get a flat tranny crossmember and a raised steering crossmember and that is close enough for me.

A body drop is a bunch of work! I have done the "old school" way(channeled). Mine is a very minor 1 1/2" drop, but with a 4" chop, the cab room is limited(I have to stop a couple car lenghts back at the lights!) You can do a stock floor body drop, but I think about 3" is pretty much the limit......without all kind of clearance problems(hood, fenders, ect). I have seen some radical drops, but you will be cutting metal "till the cows come home"

you dont, its pretty pointless on a 73-87 because the body is so close to being level with the bottom of the frame anyways.

I have been told that 73 - 87's don't need a body drop, as you can lower them via raising your front x-member. I have not quite been down this road yet, but my rockers are 3" off the ground with a fixed suspension (no bags). And as far as i can see, with a 2" x-member drop and bags, i will be laying rocker before frame! The only benefit with doing a body drop on these trucks is more clearance. Hence if you wanna keep your stock gas tanks, tranny x-member, exhaust. Otherwise it's all gotta go, or be relocated. Like i said i have never been there, but i always wanted to do a body drop aswell, but now, from this site, have learned that it is not needed!
