Incerting door glass

I spent a lovely 2 hours Sunday evening (Did not watch Saints, they make me crazy) inserting the vent glass only to remove it because I did not realize that the door window regulator has to be inserted first.

The GMC manual has a picture that shows that the entire assembly has to be inserted together, that just a bit nuts and a great way to scratch up your paint.
Has anyone installed the main window glass in the doors while the vent window assembly is already in place.

I found this on another BB -

1=Outer handle
2=window felts
3=door latch=
4=main glass (just lay in door bottom for now)
5=window regulator
6=vent window assy.
7=inner door lever assy.
8=long vertical felts
9=maneuver everything back where it goes into place and fine tune.

Hows this look any pointers you can lend would help.

Thanks
Jake

Re: Incerting door glass

Here is how I do a door.
Build up the entire vent window assembly.
tape up the door.
Put in the vent and put just the top and bottom screw in it.
Put the main window felt in starting from the vent end.
Put the wiper felts in.
Pull the vent out.
Put the window regulator in.
Install the door glass with the regulator about half way up.
Roll the door glass down with it pushed into the felt.
Install the vent assembly.
No way I know of getting the glass in with the vent in place.

Re: Incerting door glass

Jimmy,

I bought new vent assemblies for each door. I've cut and pasted the following sections because I want to make sure I understand what part you are talking about.

"Put the main window felt in starting from the vent end".
I have the framed glass, are you speaking of the metal flexible/accordion type felt that tucks along the top and rear of the door?

Thanks
Jake
