Vent Window Woes

Just replaced my vent window weather stripping. The install went off without a hitch, but now I've found that I cant lock the window any longer. I cant get the window closed enough in order to lock the lever. It appears that the stripping that runs along the vent window vertical brace is thicker that the stripping that I pulled out. Any advise would be appreciated. I included a few pics that may help as a reference. Thanks in advance, R

Re: Vent Window Woes

Nothing to add, but I'm interested in any information, as a complete door weatherstrip update is in my immediate future. If there are issues with certain manufacturers products, it would be nice to know beforehand.

Could it be that the weatherstrip needs some time/temperature to "settle"?

TQ

Here is a good thread on the subject. The heading reads exactly the same as yours. It's three pages but you almost have to read the whole thing to get all the relevant information out of it.....

Re: Vent Window Woes

Im skeptical that the stripping is going to settle enough to make a difference. Really scratching my head on this one. The install itself was a learning experience and there are a few tricks that weren't made vary obvious in other threads (such as how to get the window in and out easily, it is possible). Looks like its time to read threw this new link and see it there's a solution. I'll post it if I find the solution.

Thanks Lock for the link, but it looks like highwinger's solution to my problem was buying a different brand. I hope it doesnt come to that.

What brand did you buy? Mine were ridiculously tight when I redid them. So much so, that it took 2 people to get them closed and locked. Thankfully, after a few weeks in the summer, they now open and close beautifully.

No problem. If the gasket isn't seating in the channels I don't see it improving on it's own. It would be worth waiting to see if the fit improves like lefty's did though. Either way, if you think about it later post the outcome in this thread.

Re: Vent Window Woes

I got mine thru GMC Pauls website. The vent window seals fit but they were extremely tight getting the window closed the first time. I parked it in the sun for a few days with the windows closed and that helped allot. But they are still pretty snug.
