Pics of my new Crew Cab!
After a good long search, I found probably the nicest truck of this vintage I have ever encountered....
Here she is. 1986 Chevy C30 Crew Cab 454 w/manual Its in near perfect condition. only a few small rust spots around the doors. 105k original miles. Im essentially the second owner. Previous owner kept records from the day he bought it in '85 until he gave it up in 2015. Every oil change, which he did 2x per year... every year. I even have a record of every tank of gas he bought for 30 years. Its hard to look over it and see when gas was .70/gal Anyhow, I got it for $3600... a little steep, but considering what other crew cabs are going for and the condition of the truck... not bad. Even came with a new distributor. I had driven out to pick it up a few towns over and he called while I was en route to tell me that it wouldnt start. I got there and looked it over and determined he had no spark. I offered him $2k on the side of the road... he declined... but said that he would get it fixed on his dime and honor our original agreement. So two days later it had a new dizzy and I had a new truck. Im giving it a full tune up and replacing the clutch hydraulics, but thats about it for now, aside from some fluid changes. Looking forward to an emissions delete in the future since I dont have to do emissions testing here... that'll be fun. And of course, some rust mitigation |

And the rust...
The last pic shows several spots along the bottom edge of the windshield... Anyone know if the seal is removable allowing me to get to the rust without removing the glass? OR does that seal/trim hold the glass in? |

Thats a great deal! At minimum a $6k truck here, if you could find one that nice and clean.

In PA a truck like that would rock me $8,000. You dang sure got a nice one for what you paid.

Looks like it spent its life in the NW.
Thankfully we dont salt the roads in winter & the previous owner took very good care of it Im very happy with it Im draining the diff & tranny today and am replacing the clutch next week... Then its going to be my daily driver for a while. This site looks like a great place, im looking forward to contributing what I can

Re: Pics of my new Crew Cab!
To answer your question about the rust along the bottom of the windshield, you should be able to pick up that edge of the seal to take a look to see how far under the seal it is. If it's not to bad you can pull that silver locking strip out along the bottom, stuff 1/4" thick rope in between the body and gasket to hold the lip out of your way while you sand, prime, and repaint that area. If it is back behind the seal, to do a complete job the windshield will have to be removed.

Re: Pics of my new Crew Cab!
Not trying to scare you but I also had a bubble along the bottom of my windshield which needed to be replaced.
This is what the body shop found when I had some rust repaired... However your truck was MUCH nicer than my truck was when I first got it so some rust repair wouldn't stop me from fixing it.

Re: Pics of my new Crew Cab!
Cool truck. What are you going to use it for? Seems like a good deal to me too.

Re: Pics of my new Crew Cab!
Thanks for all the advice.
Mostly using the truck for camping trips & dragging kids and gear up to the family property. Needed a 1 ton to haul gravel, etc AND the whole family while pulling a trailer.... But also wanted to avoid EFI and excessive electronics. This was the perfect fit. I sold my 94 6.5 diesel excab and bought this the next day. Id previously had an 80 K20 & loved it. This is sort of my dream truck.
