ididit steering column replacement neutral safety switch help

Hi, I have a 71 c10 402ci, th400. When I bought it it already had an Ididit steering column and the neutral safety switch was bypassed. No Biggie, but I want my reverse lights to work. So I went to the auto part store and bought a new switch but the tab that drops down in to the slot in the column is too short. Its the same switch that was there already so this must be why the previous owner had it bypassed. So do I need a special switch for the ididit column? thanks
