If your truck is a fleetside then It's a very rare and desirable variant. Value, who knows?

Not sure what fleetside means but it is a 8 ft bed and has a tool box, glove compartment thing built in the side.

Whoops, thought you had a shortbed. Not enough coffee yet today. Still sounds like a nice truck.

I Have looked around on the web and I'm having a hard time finding anything like it. It's a great package that they put out in 1971 but they just don't have much info on them.

Re: 1971 c10 400

Not that rare. I have always loved the big blocks of that era. I know they were available as far back as 1970, not sure about previous years. The short beds are most desirable. With any of these trucks the condition is the most important issue. Rust is the biggest thing. The storage box in the bed is a cute option, but few have survived without rust issues in the lid and the bed side under the lid. You can spend $20k+ on a restoration and have a nice truck that's worth $12K. You just have to love them. I'm doing a 72 SWB big block right now. I've got over $20K in it and it's still unpainted and in pieces.

I have a 71 Cheyenne Super 402 truck with factory air and tach. Its a long bed and you would have to have some very deep pockets to get it from me. Post pictures of the truck and you will get some better responses.

As suggested pictures would be great as well as a picture of the spid label. In case you do not know the spid label is the blue and white label on the inside of the glove box door which lists all the options on the truck. Sometimes they have been obscured or removed over the years.

Re: 1971 c10 400

Sounds like a pretty nice truck. What numbers were matched up between the cab and the block to verify it's numbers matching?

Sorry, that's a rhetorical question. There's no such thing as numbers matching with these trucks. The VIN was never stamped in the block. If the SPID says it has a 402, and the date code on the block precedes the year of the truck, then it's probably the original engine.

Value is all over the map. Typical unrestored long beds range from $500- $5000. If it's in remarkable original condition, maybe $5-7000. Fully restored, depending on the restoration quality, $10-20k. More if the quality, options, color combo is right for the right buyer. There's some exceptions here on this board, but the consensus is usually, never buy to restore and flip, they aren't worth it.

I had one that was close to original, had mix/match wheels, spacers under the rear springs, missing a piece or two of the Chyenne trim, and the factory air cleaner was gone, it did have the factory overload springs. The under hood sticker listed it as a 402. Here are a couple of pics of the day we brought it home and of the motor.

Truck was originally sold in AZ, then was registered in CA until Nov 2014 when it came to KS and we bought it is June of 2015. There are a few small rust holes in the floor from what looks like a leaking heater core but other than that it's pretty solid. It had not run in 12 years when we bought it but after some fresh gas and a battery it ran. I had to then put a WP and Alt on it but put about 3000 miles on it last fall before the tear down started. I sold the engine and trans with all brackets to a guy on this board.

It now has a 5.3/t-56 combo and is lowered.

On your 71 the 400 badging is correct and the engine would be a 402. The 70 trucks had the 396 engine so if yours was an early build for the 1971 model year, for instance September 1970, the plant where it was built was probably labelling the big blocks as 396 's on the spid. I have a 1971 Suburban with the same engine code as you L47 and my spid says 400 cu in V8 engine. I cant tell what plant your truck was built at because you blocked the serial number part of the spid which I understand. You can use the attached chart to decode your serial number.

Re: 1971 c10 400

That is a very nicely optioned truck with A/C, positraction, side tool box, factory tach and big block with upper and lower body side mouldings and a not to common sharp color. Are all those options still there and working ?

That is a well-optioned truck in a very nice color. The big block makes it extra desirable. How rusty is it? Looks like the rockers are gone and the front bumper has been switched out.

Yes all the options are still there it just needs a restore. Trying to figure out what it would be worth in this condition.

If you just bought I'm sure you know what you paid. Are you thinking if we say its worth more than you paid you will try to flip it instead of restoring the truck ?

Really haven't decided what in going to do with it. If I could afford to restore it would take me few years. Just would like to find a idea of what it is worth. I can't find another one like it for sale on the web.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Options don't mean much if it's a rust bucket.

People some people take many years to restore their trucks, cars etc. Their is a lot of subjectivity establishing what a truck is worth. From what is see and what you have said in my opinion its a 2000/3000 truck.
