Deeply Entranced In Thought....Question?

Okay folks this is probably a no-brainer but I was just thinking about something. If Chevrolet trucks are Cheyenne and GMC's are Sierra, Chevy vans are Van-dura and Jimmy's are Bonanza, howz come both divisions in the past referred to the Suburban as the Suburban?
Just wonderin'

Yup, i used to own a '91 S10 Tahoe.

Kinda like the option package Silverado is now the name of the whole Chevy truck line....instead of the CK series they used to be....

actually Chevy had the Astro van and GMC had the Safari van
in the mid-late 80s longhorn was also an option on the s10
starting in 58 chevy had the Impala, Belair, and the Biscayne all the same car just different levels of luxary basically the same concept as the c/10. the custom/10 and the CST or Cheyenne/10, just different trim levels and options

I have seen the S10 Durango too...to me it just looks like some 80's side graphics, no special package or anything. Another thing...were 3 variants of the S10 Blazer enough? Blazer, Jimmy, Bravada? And now Cadillac offers 4 different SUV's. And of course they got rid of the only cool S10s, the Syclone/Typhoon. And why did they drop CST from trucks in '70, but leave it on Blazers til '72? Argh.

The first suburban that I heard of was the GMC version of the Cameo truck. It was called the Suburban Carrier.
These trucks started production in 1955 and the outside of the beds were fiberglass.
These were also the first fleetside beds made.
The decision for the fiberglass beds was made due to the fact that they could bring them out of production quicker but also that GM had made a deal with the folkes that were doing thier corvette body's. The corvette sales were slow at first and GM wanted to keep their suppliers busy until the corvettes caught on.

a Gmc Cameo pickup from 55-57 was called a caballero, or thats what my friends dad told me (he owns a 56 cameo)
the suburban was first produced in either 37 or 39 i forget but it is one of those
the reason you are thinking suburban carrier is because that is what cameo where called both chevy and gmc because they had that new suburbanite look to them instead of the old stepside farm truck

you can't forget about the GT package for the GMC's in the 80's and 90's either. and the reason why they got rid of the Syclone/Typhoon package was kinda 2 fold. too costly - about $8000 more than your average s-10/sonoma. also, heat - they couldn't keep the turbo'd 4.3 cool enough. ran fine if you didn't get into the turbo. once you did, you could watch the temp guage jump from 180° to 220° in a matter of seconds
