Who's running Chevorn Delo in their motor

Just wondered if anyone is running Delo oil in your rebuilt vintage motor for the good zinc/phosphorus content which protects against wear

Delo LE 15-40 , zinc-.13, phosphrous .12

the old Delo multigrade(not LE) 15-40 , zinc- .15, phos.- .14

Most the new low emission oils the highest content is zinc .08 or less, phos .77 or less. Less for synthetics and syn/blends

Valvoline ZR1 racing oil is zinc 13-14, phos. .12-.13

Brad Penn oil is zinc .15, phos .14

I ran Delo in the 396 with flat tappet hydraulic lifters for a few years with no problems.

Re: Who's running Chevorn Delo in their motor

A long long time ago I used shell rimula straight 30w..ran that a few years and then switched to delo straight 30w...ran that in all my trucks and tractors for years and years..one of those trucks had 285k miles another had 235k and a few others up around 200k when I got rid of them..never had any internal engine problems...absolutely no complaints..but now I'm a believer in synthetic so that's what my stuff gets now..

Re: Who's running Chevorn Delo in their motor

Have been running Delo since the 70's in fleet applications & personal use, both straight weight & multi-vis, everything from small to big. Good oil, can't go wrong with it. All the commercial grades still have a fairly high zinc content but they are reducing the zinc amounts also. Our oil options with flat tappet motors are becoming fewer & fewer. At this point we basically have 3 options:
1. run commercial grade oil (diesel grade)
2. use a boutique brand (redline, royal purple, amsoil, etc)
3. use a zinc additive

We still have to monitor content because, just as you pointed out, the Delo LE has less zinc than the old. Bob's the Oil Guy is a great web sight that has more info/data on oils than you'd ever want to know. Some of it is dry reading but very insightful. When I have insomnia that's what I read! I was in fleet maintenance for years, now I own a quick lube, tire & repair shop. I work on a lot of older rigs/ classics / hot rods so I am forced to stay up with the zinc content in oil - boy, that sounds boring!

Price wise they're the same, I mean compare as far as quality/which is better?

Re: Who's running Chevorn Delo in their motor

Internal engine failure due to wrong brand/type of oil is rarely a problem in our vintage trucks...in my opinion. All the additives and such are a waste of money, again my opinion only.

This is only from my experience and observations from having been in the automotive business for many years and having owned many many Gas and Diesel engines.
