'58 Windshield wiper saga, ideas?
Trying to make a long story short.
My '58 came with electric wipers, just the motor and transmission arms (non working). I got the retrofit wiper motor and had to buy arms too (since it uses the vacuum motor type arms). I had to fabricate mounting brackets since I didn't have those off a vacuum motor. Finally got all this installed and working. I also bought new wiper arms (repros) and blades (Trico 15" classic series) from Classic Industries - the latest batch of problems begins. The Blades fall off of the arms. They won't stay on at all. The arm on the driver's side, slips when the wipers are on (the cone turns but the wiper doesn't and makes a grinding noise). Any ideas? TIA. These wipers are taking way too much time!

Re: '58 Windshield wiper saga, ideas?
my 58 truk has almost 30,000 miles on it since 2010
while i do drive it in the rain, even leaving to go for a ride when it's raining, i have not used my wipers even once we drove in light mist to heavy rain out of indy for 5 hrs on a power tour these old wiper blades are 12'' long, on equally short arms they don't even begin to clear my line of sight, unless i'm looking at my hood rain-x is your friend i apply rain-x every few weeks or at the beginning of a big trip i use it on my dd too, don't use the windshield washer fluid, use the real stuff: wipe on, buff off

Like _Ogre said....Rain X is your friend. I have logged thousands of miles on these 55-59 trucks and do not use the wipers at all.

Dumb question.
Has anyone ever tried to swap out w/more modern arms? |
