Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
Alright guys, I have an odd issue with my '62. Turns out grandpa put an aftermarket rear bumper on the truck. Looking closer at it, there are 4 lights (2 on each side) with the openings being different sizes. A quick tape measure shows the big one is 3.5" and the other is 2" if memory serves right.
I have red and black wiring going to the rear bumper. Unfortunately, the current lights don't have screw holes. And it is a bulb which means the flat covers don't work. I'm starting to look at Semi lights as an option, but I have no idea if they will work. Here is one of the Semi ideas (http://www.raneystruckparts.com/2-ro...-marker-light/). I'm thinking I could make all 4 lights the same size. Here is a picture showing the bumper. I can take a closer pic, but I thought this would get the conversation going. Anyone have any ideas? I've been all over LMC, Classic Chevy and Napa. I can't figure out what I want or can do. |

Pull one of the lights out and get close up pics of light and what ever kind of mounting that is in the bumper....
Look at post #45 here http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=561195&page=2 Last edited by jtrichard; 09-19-2016 at 08:35 PM. |

Re: Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
If I were going to tackle that one, I would find a sealed light with a diameter that inserted into the original holes. Barring that option, I would find one that is a tad larger and secure it behind the opening with a homemade bracket of some type. I would also use an l.e.d bulb so I wouldn't have to mess with it again for a long time.

Sweet. A Barden bumper then. Thanks for posting that link. Interesting to see how those lights are in it. |

I should add my lights aren't flat like his. They are more like a tear drop.

Re: Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
IF you could get the big holes cut out to 4-1/2" nice and round I would go to a light like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-RED-ROUND-...ZTgqCb&vxp=mtr
And 2-3/4" for backup lights http://shop.poisonspyder.com/2-1-2-L.../41-04-300.htm Last edited by jtrichard; 09-19-2016 at 09:42 PM. |

Re: Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
I also wonder if I could just make these RV lights work. I would just need some way to mount them to the inside of the bumper. Hmm...

Re: Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
How about something like this - looks like a mounting bracket on the back of the housing - a little larger than you are looking for but it just might work and for $3.80 from Home Depot not a lot of cash out of pocket to experiment with.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Blazer-In...55UW/202498003 Then there's this one too - though you would have to open up the bumper hole to 4 1/4" but it is a surface mount and $3.98 out of pocket. Also from Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Blazer-In...KcMHgg&cj=true |

Re: Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
I found one more for you 3 3/4" round with 2 mounting studs but they're $17.00 a pair off eBay with free shipping - still not exactly what you're looking for but the more options you have the better - I know - still 1/4" larger than your opening but I thought I would throw it out there for you to check out anyway.

Re: Custom Rear Bumper Tail Lights Needed
Thanks for finding these? I think I like the Home Depot ones better. I just wonder if I install 4 of them if it will work with the light illuminating behind the opening especially for the smaller ones.
I also like the 3 7/8" lights. I think they would be a better fit for your truck & bumper. I wouldn't think there would be a problem with them sitting behind the holes with giving out enough light - though there might be some red illumination from under the bumper at night - just not sure about that though. |
