A-arm bushing steel sleeve

I am working on a set of 73+ lower arms and I am to the pint that I am removing the shafts to replace the bushings. I got the shafts out by drilling holes around the rubber and pounding them out. The outer sleeve of the rubber bushings are still in the arm. Any tips for removing these? I can tell that the inside portion has the edge pinged, so I am guessing I need to bend that edge back in before I can get the sleeves out.

As long as you dont need to reuse that sleeve heres how I got mine out. I took a hack saw and put the blade through the sleeve and then hooked it to the saw frame. Cut a notch in it and then you can take a chisel or a punch and collapse it and it will fall right out.

Good call on the hack saw. That worked great. As far as I can tell, the rubber bushing and steel sleeve are intended to be a single unit. I think the poly bushings are a 3 piece setup that is assembled during the install.

The Energy Suspension poly bushings I've done in the past would/could re-use the original sleeves based on the app. I always check first to save the extra labor.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

I haven't quite decided if I'm going to to poly bushings or go back with rubber. I was looking at the Moog rubber bushings since the rest of my suspension that I have rebuilt is all Moog.

FYI.... I believe Ride tech will be offering a Delrin replacement bushing for C10's this fall. If performance type responsive steering/handling is desired, I would check into them.

If not, the replacement rubber bushings will require removing the old shells.
