Suburban vs pickup frame
I have an opportunity to purchase a Suburban shell. Its on a frame but the frame is junk. Does anyone know what the differences are between the factory burn frame and a longbox frame of the same year?

Re: Suburban vs pickup frame
Same WB with very little difference. The truck frame lack Suburban body mounts is only difference that matters, and you'll have those on the rotten frame. If not usable, at least you have the locations and something to copy from

I think the Suburban rear frame rails are a little longer but you should have those on the old frame too. LockDoc

Re: Suburban vs pickup frame
Great info guys, thanks. Not sure if I'm gonna pull the trigger as I don't need another project right now. But who knows.

Re: Suburban vs pickup frame
A few year back I parted out a 71 cheyenne 4x4 as part of a package deal. I knew something was up when I went to look at it, as the VIN started with a "C"...I did buy it, however. One of the first things I noticed was the rear frame rails. they looked like someone had cut them off with a torch in order for the pickup bed to fit. After doing some checking, I found that the frame was actually a 4x4 suburban frame. The truck body fit with some mods as mentioned previously.

If you weren't sooo far away, I'm going to be stripping a 71 panel and would have the whole frame fer ya..

Re: Suburban vs pickup frame
I think the Sub has built in bumper mounts for the factory chrome bumper just like the Blazer does. I have a parts Sub with a receiver hitch that I didn't use on the truck because if memory serves the rails curve down in the back so the bumper bolts up.
But that's an easy work around if you were to swap the truck frame underneath I'd think.
