Re: 69 chevy with 250 ?
There could be a dozen reasons , Have you tried to adjust the idle screw on the carb ? ? Are you familiar with these old trucks ?

Re: 69 chevy with 250 ?
Im familar with the trucks just not a 250 . I tried to adjust the idle screw but did not help . I was thinking might need a carb rebuild . It was from a high elevation and im at close to sea level not sure if that would make a big difference . Looking to get a manual now

Re: 69 chevy with 250 ?
Does it idle well after start but die after you throttle? could be too strong throttle spring.
with truck idling back what you think is idle screw all way in it should then idle crazy high. ill look in my book to see what carb # it is. from there you can look up manual. in my book its rochester "mv" http://www.carburetor-parts.com/Roch...al_ep_352.html idle speed spec is 480-500 Last edited by Jarvis-69 GMC 1500CK; 09-25-2016 at 06:18 PM. |

Re: 69 chevy with 250 ?
Yes, when you step on the accelerator pedal the accelerator pump squirts a shot of gas into the throttle plates to make up for the extra air entering the carb. If the accelerator pump is not working it will get too much air and not enough fuel which makes it stall out....

Re: 69 chevy with 250 ?
Sounds like too much air from a vacuum leak!

Re: 69 chevy with 250 ?
Use some propane to check for vacuum leaks. And rebuild the carburetor. Mine had a similar issue and it had a couple vacuum leaks. One around the intake manifold and the other at the base of the carburetor.
I ordered my rebuild kit from mikes carburetor and they have been really helpful. I like the brass float the kit came with. |
