any easyish upgrades for brakes ?

looking to ditch the factory single line master on firewall and vac/booster thingy under cab .

would like to just go all on firewall with true 2 line master for safety .

82 c60 366/4speed / drum-drum brakes.

read a bit and asked a few hydroboost swap places they say its not good to do hydroboost with drum/drum combo .

so looks like I need to keep it vac booster system .

thanks for any links or help .

main reason for change over is #1 safety #2 old stuff is all shot or about dead .

Was curious if you have done anything with this truck yet? I have a 65 c-60 that I want to do the same thing with.

Air Brakes? It would be nice to find a complete donor/junk yard find.

Interesting that an 82 anything would be drum front and single res.
I'd imagine its a solid front axle so you might look into where medium trucks go to die and see if the brakes swap. I seem to recall stovebolt.com caters to the larger trucks some. They call 'em big bolts...

I think I will try a 3/4 ton vac booster and a 90's 3500hd 5/10lug truck brame master . its the biggest bore in a 2 line I could find for gm off the shelf @ 1.50 bore .

might have to make a spacer ring to seal/center the master to the booster if its size is different like some gm units did .

and yes it had drum/drum for old axles removed and swapped for 1970 napco 4x4 c-60 axles and tcase . there drum/drum also .

and its the funky single line master on firewall down to huge vac/booster thing under cab floor.

I am in the HEAVY rust belt of new England and heavy junk yards are hard to find.

How about using the Bosch/Bendix Hydromax brake setup from a newer C60 or larger truck. Fairly trouble free compared to the old single resevoir hydrovac setups. We have one on our F750 Ford with a Cummins and has never been an issue!!!

I know its a ways from you but Jerry Johnson truck sales in Norris City, IL is a big truck scrap yard. Hendelas in all older pickups from smaller to yuuuge ones.

My 79 GMC wrecker has the same set up and will put you into the windshield if you hit the brakes too hard. Even with a full size truck on the bed. Why do you want to change it? Replace what's bad and save yourself some headaches. I have never had an issue with the brakes. My brother had the truck for 10 years before I had it with no issues. As long as you maintain the system you should never have an issue with it. The 3500 hd master and a 3/4 ton booster was never designed for a truck this size or front drum brakes. Just because it has a dual master does not make it safe if it was not designed to work with the rest of the system. If you are transferring brake systems from one truck to another you should transfer all of it not just part of it.
