1966 283 stock compression??
guys,
I am trying to decide if my bone stock 66' 283 needs to be rebuilt or not, it is currently on an engine stand, my question is this: what compression reading should I be getting on my gauge? I am rotating it by hand. would it be worth putting the starter back on it and rigging it up to use for rotating the motor? |

Re: 1966 283 stock compression??
By hand will be way to slow. You can do a leak down test on the stand. Will give you good info in the condition.

With carb butterflies open at cranking speed a fresh 283 outta show you around 150 psi. P.P. heads may be 5-10 psi higher.

Yeah my 283 had true flat tops w/ only two valve reliefs in them & shim gaskets.
