Buying Advice
Im thinking about buying a 60-66 C10.
I currently have a 64 F100, Ive taken it as far as I want to so Im looking to sell it and start something new. I like nice drivers, somewhat original looking, ps, pb, air are not necessary but are welcome. Im partial to the eyebrow hoods, thats what Grand Dad had. Ive got an idea that I want a 60-66 2wd C10, short, stepside. I like sixes, a Pontiac OHC 250 would be the direction I would try to go, if I can find one. Any advice on the best year(s) or does it matter? It matters with the F100s, 61-66 had the same body style, 61-64 were straight axles, while 65-66 had twin I beams.

Re: Buying Advice
60-61: the eyebrow hood you want
60-62: earlier frame design that has not much aftermarket parts availability as well as a hydraulic clutch, front torsion bars and a eaton rear axle that is hard to find parts for. 60-63: wrap around windshield with double hump dash 63-66: new updated frame with many aftermarket parts available, has coil springs in the front with a 12 bolt rear end out back. 64-66: different cab with straight pillars and glass with a square dash. It's all preference but if it were me I would get a 63 (stylish wrap around windshield but more modern frame) and put a '60 hood and grille with fender emblems and I would have pretty much an imitation '60 with the aftermarket parts availability of a 63-66

Re: Buying Advice
If you like 6s, maybe you want a 60-63 GMC, which came with a 305 V6 instead of the 283 V8.

60-62 trucks have stronger, wider, boxed X-frames with torsion bar front ends but 63-66's are more interchangeable with front coils. 60-62 suspension parts are more expensive. I agree, Just a preference. |

Re: Buying Advice
That mix-and-match formula mentioned earlier is about perfect.
I too like the eyebrow hood and four-headlight grill, and much prefer the wrap-around windshield. The Suburban in my avatar is a '62, but I tell everyone it's a '61 just because it's easier than explaining I swapped hood and grill. If you aren't married to the torsion bar front suspension, you can pretty easily swap a later cross member in, and get factory disc brakes and readily-available drop spindles. BUT, as also said earlier, the '60-'62 has the hydraulic clutch, which makes aftermarket brakes expensive. If I were to start over, I'd hunt for a '63... At that point I'd keep the '63 grill and stock hood, too--I just really, really don't like the '62 grill! and both of my trucks are '62s... -Brad

Re: Buying Advice
any of the 6's (60-66) is a great truck
Me: I favor the 63 First year without torsion bars Last year of the Knee knocker (rap around windshield) the chevy has double hump dash and I'm a Fleetside Guy . . .
