292 Carb, Intake and headers

I've started rebuilding my 292 L6 in my c10 and was wondering what the best setup as far as carb, intake and headers is. I was planning on going 4bbl and was wondering if I could use a quadrajet carb as I have a few lying around. I'm planning on a set of headers and I don't care about high horsepower as this is just going to be a driver truck. Can anyone tell me if the quadrajet carb will work with an offenhauser 4bbl intake found on summit racing's website.

As for headers, be careful with long tube headers; they hang really low. I have them and am going to buy Langdon cast iron headers so I can lower it more.

Well let's start with I am glad your keeping the 292 instead of putting the same ol boring sbc in there.

The quadrajet Has been done, but there aren't many who have. Only saw one guy who did it back in 2012 and he said he got 20 mpg with his stock 292. Keep in mind with the offy intake you can only mount the carb with the primaries outboard. This means the back of the carb will be facing the valve cover. I prefer the clifford performance intake as you can mount the carb how you please, but it is more expensive. The runners are larger, but that really doesn't matter unless your concerned with a difference of a couple hp. You will need an adapter to adapt the carb to the manifold.

Good headers can be found here: http://www.langdonsstovebolt.com/sto...egory=18665955

And here is the better(IMOP!) intake from clifford:

And the adapter for the intake:

His prices have gone up quite a bit since I got mine. In your case the offy would probably be better so things don't get crazy expensive.

Here are the shorty tube header he sells.

Re: 292 Carb, Intake and headers

The end goal here is for a driver engine that keeps the truck rolling well and is unique. I know everyone seems to put in a smallblock of some sort, so I opted to keep the torque monster. I also need a new cam and lifters as well as rings. Basically want to make this engine do what it should have from the factory. I like those headers TJ, I'd bet they look good on the engine.

Yeah, its a darn shame that the Unique factor is going down the drain. Seems that if it's not a $1200 chinese 350 it ain't worth doing. I've seen people throw out perfectly good 6 cylinder engines before even seeing if they run! Just to put in a boring sbc. lol Like WOW. Really?

Not sure if you're talking about clifford's or langdon's. But here is a picture of clifford shorties on my 292 so you can get an idea.
