I know this is a weird post but I was wondering I've use Flex Seal around my house and it does work if you had to use Flex Seal on your c10 where would you use it at? I'm just thinking in a way to prevent rust

Re: Flex seal
I wouldn't use it. Use proper automotive materials for working on your truck. 2k epoxy or powder coating will protect against water/rust better than everything else.

Re: Flex seal
I actually painted my whole frame with flexseal. Didn't prep other than knocked off loose stuff. Held fine for a couple years til I broke it. Then painted the whole bed. Was a pain to keep clean but didnt scratch very easily.

Re: Flex seal
I have tried the "as seen on TV" Flex Seal and it's not very good, at least not for me.
I used it on my first electrolysis tub I've posted pics of. I had a small crack in the bottom and Flex Seal would help but it never eliminated the crack. Even spraying the whole can was not effective. I will never buy that stuff again. |

Re: Flex seal
i wouldn't use it on my vehicles. There are already plenty of superior products out there for all the specific needs that are well proven. Rustoleum has their version and it sells for a couple bucks a can less. To make that screen door to float they must have used 100 cans. It doesn't bridge gaps any better than paint. In fact, you brush paint on heavily and it will seal a screen better. The paint will crack and the Flex Seal won't. But it sure doesn't build up like you'd expect. I had a tear in a tarp I put duct tape on, then that stuff. I used a whole can to coat over the duct tape and the small area around it to encase it and seal the edges. In less than a year (and it's not in the sun) the edges of the duct tape are peeing up, just like it would have if I never used Flex Schmeal.

Re: Flex seal
Was that an ad for Flex Seal? I was too busy watching his hands
That's an awful expensive way to seal a roof. That stuff is nasty. You should wear a respirator when using it. It has to be carcinogenic...very nasty stuff!

Re: Flex seal
Yes it is. I wonder if it's real or computer animation even though a real turtle passed by it

Re: Flex seal
There's no flex seal on the windows, so I wonder how they sealed those. I figure, if it's real (and it doesn't look like underwater photography to me), they sealed seams with a high performance caulk, such as Geocel (tri-polimer urethane) before spraying the flex seal. Only seams and holes need sealed, but it would have no bouyancy behind the cab and not sit level. And how does it move? That's a hi-tech piece of custom equipment that relies on far more than flex seal to enable it to be under water with him inside. What I see is a ruining Art Deco Chevy.
I used that stuff when I restored a wooden sign for the 93 year old lady I helped out. Her daughter had given it to her folks years ago and it was in bad shape. It was an expensive sign that was rotting on top and had a big split through the middle. I wanted her to have the sign till her last day. I put glue in the split, then caulked to fill flush. I used wood hardener on the top and primed it all with good oil primer. Flex Seal is paintable, so I sprayed it with that next to encapsulate the whole thing. The Flex Seal doesn't go on nearly as heavy as they show. It levels out if you hit a spot heavy. That strainer had cans applied before they shot that clip. I added a rail cap to the top, primed it again, and painted it up. This was a couple/few years ago and it is holding up well. It has it's uses, but I wouldn't use it in place of paint unless I wanted a rough texture

I used the clear flex seal around some leaking windows in our home years ago and it's dry during any rain. Agree, probably would use an automotive product as an under coating. |
