1971 Chevy 3/4 ton front axle parts needed ASAP

I just got a 71 Chevy C20 in trade for work and I had to pull it home with my Blazer due to a bad transmission. When I went to install all new bearings and seals in the front axle I found that the passenger's side spindle and hub were eaten to pieces. If anyone out there has both I would greatly appreciate it as winter is coming fast and I need to haul my winter wood with this truck. I only have a month to do this and should have started last week. I have fixed everything that was bad on it and can drive it as soon as I have the axle components. I can only get the date code off of the axle tube as it is scraped up badly. The far left numbers are 6161A4 as far as I can tell as they are scraped up. The right hand numbers are not even legible. It is an open knuckle Dana 44 (445F). No build sticker in the glove box or any other tags or identification anywhere on the axle or truck. Hopefully someone out there can help me. I live in Colorado, zip 81151. if you will give me a price with shipping and the parts. Thanks!

there is a first design and second design in 71-72 and i could never figure out how to tell the difference. i solved the problem by using 73 -76? axle shafts, spindles, etc. makes life easier when buying replacement parts. you can still use your rotors and hubs from the 71

I sure am. The driver's side is just fine and that is why I would like to fix this diff. instead of gutting it and putting newer parts in. It is a good differential other than the bad spindle and hub on the passenger side. And I have already paid for all of the bearings, seals, etc. and can not return them now for the driver's side as it is already put back together. I hate to waste the money on those and plus my time lost for installing new parts, sand blasting and painting the differential and the time to pull it and reinstall it after sand blasting. The truck is ready other than the bad hub and spindle.

A 1971 should have disc brakes. Your pictures appear to be for a drum brake front end. I don't know if the spindle would interchange. The 71 hub would also have 9/16" wheel studs.

Re: 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton front axle parts needed ASAP

I have two hubs and 6 spindles. Check your hub on the rear bearing side for a casting # close to the edge (see pic). These hubs are good and bearings races were tight when removed. If the cast #'s match, here's a pair. The spindles are all the same measurement for inner and outer bearings. They do run a needle bearing for the axle support. These should be 71/72, as that is all I have owned. PM me if interested. Thanks, Dan

Re: 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton front axle parts needed ASAP

Here are the spindle pics. If memory serves me the difference in the 71/72 was that the second design had a tube seal installed in the tube behind the differential case to keep water and trash out of the center differential area. It sealed on the machined axle surface. The small measurement is the outer bearing to spindle and the large measurement is the inner bearing as it mounts on the spindle Hope you get'er fixed.

Re: 1971 Chevy 3/4 ton front axle parts needed ASAP

Sure do! My PC gave up the ghost so I had to buy a new one, dam??? computers and I am too old to know how to set the stupid things up the way the young kids do so it took me a ton of phone calls and time to get this thing operational. So I really need to get this old gal running as it just snowed in the hills above my house and it is freezing cold now. The hubs look exactly the same as mine and the spindle measurements are also the same. Please PM me when you read this. Thanks for taking the time to post the pics and help me out! And thanks to 2500 for all of your help!
