71 K10 Question ???
Hello all, I have a 71 K10 and I noticed something that looked peculiar yesterday. The font leafsprings look a little off at the shackeles. It looks like they are tilted inward, not a huge amount but enough it doesn't look right. I measured the distance between the leafsprings at the front 29 3/8" and rear 28" and they are off by more than an inch, making me think that the shackles are turned in an inch. I was wondering if anyone out there can verify the distances and confirm if this is normal or not. Thanks for the help!

Just to clarify, the truck is an original 4wd per the vin and not a converted 2wd truck?

My '72 K20 measures 27 7/8" between the front hangers -- 27 3/4" between the rear shackles.

Mike, thanks for your help. I figured that there was something weird about the way it looked. Thinking it through, I naturally thought the leafsprings should be evenly spaced in order to have proper steering-handling.
The only thing I think might help the problem is to add another crossmember in order to restore and retain the correct alignment. I was thinking that a crossmember from a 60-66 chevy truck might just do the trick. It would mount in the correct place, but I'm not sure that the dimensions will work for our trucks. Maybe the tubular crossmember is pushing the frame apart? Possibly a dodge front axle also pushing/pulling the springs around?

The crossmember you are looking at is for a manual transmission truck and it supports the bellhousing. It won't work on your truck because you have an auto trans.
I think your problem may be worn spring eye bushings and shackle hanger bushings. Remove the shackles and check your bushings. If any are worn you should just replace all of them.

Looks like in the first pic the spring bushing is wore out the bolt looks lower on the right side of the spring causing the spring to shift inward and tilting the shackles
