I came across 3 69-70 pickups today. Found out who the owner is, and he said that he was willing to sell some of the parts off of them. One of them has a brake booster installed! Was this a factory option on quad-drum trucks? It didn't have the master cylinder. It looks a little rough from being in the weather. How would I tell if it is any good?

Also, he has one with a very nice looking grill with the embossed 'CHEVROLET' in the center. What would be a good price for this. I know I can order one for $400+. It looks good, just needs to be polished, but no dents!

Yes, the drum brakes had the power option. If the booster looks like its been open to the weather......I would cough 2 times & pass on it! crazyL

i had a 69 with power drum brakes . around here a nice used grille goes for about $200.00 easy if its in real good shape i just sold one for $200.00

my 69 has power brakes. Drums @ all 4 corners. they aren't listed on the options sheet, but it looks like a factory setup to me. even if someone did swap it in, I'm glad they did because it saves me a little time and money not having to do it myself. were power brakes usually listed on the options sticker?

Power brakes was an option from day one on this generation of truck.

I didn't know power brakes were an option before 71. I think I just might have to go and get that bracket and order me up a brake booster (I don't feel all that safe about the one that is on that truck).

Did both power & non-power brakes use the same master cylinder?! Is it something small as to how long the plunger on the brake booster is, or is it a large difference as to (who knows)???

I have two '69 3/4 ton trucks: one with power brakes and one without. Both look like they use the same proportioning valve and master cylinder if my memory serves me well (been a while since I looked at the non-power setup).

The only difference between the two systems is in the push rod that goes through the firewall.

Im selling a master/booster that works for and is off a '70 1/2 ton w/rod. $75 shipped.

The master cylinder and prop valve are the same for with or without power brakes. I just added power brakes a couple of months ago and it was real easy. Just make sure you get all the pieces like the rod that attaches to the peddle arm inside the truck and there is a plunger with rubber seal on it that should be sticking out the front of the booster that you will need, it is what pushes into the master cylinder. I used my old master cylinder and prop valve and it works great. The only problem is there is a wire extension that goes with the power breaks to go to the prop valve for the brake light and I can't seem to find one of these. You could hook up any wire to extend it but I'm looking for a plug that looks origanal.

I just added power brakes a couple of months ago and it was real easy. I used my old master cylinder and prop valve and it works great. The only problem is there is a wire extension that goes with the power breaks to go to the prop valve for the brake light and I can't seem to find one of these.
