Houston area blazers?
I finally have decided to start on my 72 blazer, 6 years after buying it! It in decent shape and I drive it from time to time but now want to do a proper restoration.
I want to pull the original 350 out and replace with a crate motor. I have never pulled an engine before, in your experience, is it worth it to do yourself, or just pay to have it done? I know my way around a motor, but it is little daunting to me. Anybody know a good guy to install if I go that route and what is the cost of install. Ive been lurking on this for years and finally taking the plunge.. |

Welcome to the board. A straight swap is something you can easily tackle with a solid set of basic hand tools and an engine lift. You'll want to read a lot, and really understand what you're doing before you dive in, but it's not something to get too anxious over.

You're right across 45 from me, I'm surprised I haven't seen you riding around. Post up some pics of your ride!

Re: Houston area blazers?
I don't have much garage time. So when I swapped my engines, I didn't go out to the garage to swap engines. One night I unbolted the exhaust from the manifolds, unbolted the torque converter from the flexplate, etc. Tgr next night I did a bunch more stuff. You can handle it. Just don't go out to swap the engines. Go out to accomplish several small tasks, then some more, and then some more. Pretty soon you will have it running again.

You can change the motor yourself just take your time but you will need a good engine crane and a jack to support the transmission. I have changed lots of motors over the years if you need help send me a pm.

Re: Houston area blazers?
Good luck with your project. I'm getting close to finishing my 72 (been saying that for 6 months). Went to change the oil A year and a half ago and then I had a bare frame??? It just happens! It's been a fun project but ready to get her on the road again. I'm in Katy and have quite a few leftover parts if you want to come take a look. I have a engine hoist if you still need one. Lots of pics, videos, ziplock bags and the guys on this forum is the best advice I can give. GL.
