Fuel Line Questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

On my '51 3100, I got the gas tank mounted (Tanks 53 CGX) using one of their Walbro in-tank pumps and started to run the fuel lines. I bought the Tanks LS fuel line kit which includes Russell rubber line and barbed fittings. These are the twist loc kind that they show easily push together? BS. I know I have less hand strength than I used to but it's not gone and these are a bear!

I started as they tell you to - oil the ends, clamp the fitting in the vise, twist the hose on - except - crap it won't go! So I tried sticking the hose in boiling water and that didn't help.

I found the Koul EZ-ON Hose Press http://koultools.com/product/push-lock-hose-tool/ which looks awesome but it's $250!

I'm sure I'd use it again but still - that's a bunch. Today I was searching here and found a link to the Summit braided fuel line kit for about $110. I'd have to figure out which snap on fittings to use to connect to my Corvette filter regulator but that should be cheaper than buying the Koul tool.

Any thoughts or advice on this? I'd be happy to use the Russell kit, just struggling with paying for the Koul tool for ~6 fittings and it really pisses me off that I can't get the hose on those friction fittings.

Here is a simple tool a friend made for installing the Russell ends. It worked really well.

Thanks! Those are a couple of good suggestions that give me some ideas.

Not sure what to do about yours. If I asked more I'm afraid the answer would involve a squirt of the lube and a hose and then... Interesting suggestion though!

Last time we built a multi-link suspension, there were so many poly bushings to install that we went through a full tube of the 'glide. I'm pretty sure the cashier at the store was curious why we stopped back in for 2 bottles in 2 days. Rough weekend.
