How to remove old paint protection film
Any ideas on how to get this junk off? Good gone does nothing, heat gun makes it gooey, but even with a scraper barely moves it.
Buffing is going well in the truck, but this is an eyesore. |

I've had goog luck with those rubber wheels, you mount on a drill. It's like an art gum eraser so it's very soft and you work the edge and it heats up and peels it off. Made by 3m I think

Re: How to remove old paint protection film
x3. I read this thread hoping there was a better solution than the eraser wheel, haha. It's not bad, it just takes a while and it's at an awkward angle. I got mine from the local auto paint supply store but they are available on Amazon as well. The wheel I got was on a threaded shaft so I also had to get an adapter that I can chuck into my drill motor.

Re: How to remove old paint protection film
What I have run it deal with these bad idea's in the first place. (may own opinion) Is the protective layer has long fell off, worn away, has been sun and weather damaged and is long since gone. And what is remaining is the adhesive that was still somewhat sticky and has collected all kinds of road goobee's. And its a mother of all mother to get off. The one's on my current truck will only come off with a DA and sand paper.
I would try WD40 or 3M stick/adhesive remover. Ken

Re: How to remove old paint protection film
I saw a guy use a 3000 PSI pressure washer to get it off his RV (youtube)... i may try that, not sure what PSI my pressure washer is but i don't think it's that high. Makes me a little nervous, but i'll test and try carefully -- don't want to chip the paint off!
So far i have options: goo-gone: FAILED pressure washer eraser wheel / whizzy wheel other Adhesive remover Will report back! |

Maybe try a plastic razor blade,I have used one once to remove a bumper sticker someone stuck on a painted trunk lid. They are not like a metal razor blade they won't dig in the paint.

Re: How to remove old paint protection film
pressure washer did nothing -- i have a 1600 PSI i think.
However, the "wonder wheel" worked "wonders" - i was actually surpised. Took me about an hour from start to finish. I did one full run and got most off... then wiped off so i could see progress, then did a quick re-do to get the lines and missed spots. Finally, used some goo gone and my fingernail to get the little bits of sticky goo that were left. Just need to polish, and shouldn't be able to tell it was ever there...... thanks for the tips! |

Good deal. Glad it worked for you. Looks like the paint protector did its job, the paint looks nice underneath.
