Finding basic wheels/tires for 3100 pickup

Hey guys, the pickup truck arrived two days ago and two weeks before I expected. Excitement ensued and now I'm coming back down off cloud nine. First things first, the tires are totally shot and the wheels are an odd width for the truck. I need to find some simple 6 lug wheels/tires off crap-list but I have no idea what my max size is for the truck or what I need to watch out for as far as sizing goes. Searching uncovered a need for a larger center to fit the old 3100 trucks and a large enough offset to clear the brakes.

The rears currently are 295/50R15 fronts are 215/70R15

A few options in the local area:
http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/pts/5821939971.html 265/75R16 chevy 1500 stock wheels

http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/wto/5819056314.html Toyota Tacoma wheels/tires

Seems like it shouldn't be this hard to find some junky old wheels and tires that keep air in them so I can get the car in and out of the garage. TIA

Re: Finding basic wheels/tires for 3100 pickup

these trucks have drum brakes, so as long as you have a diameter larger than 14", it will fit.

thos late model chevy wheels will not fit, the offset is too much and will be really tucked in the fenders if they fit, which they wont. in 88 chevy 6 lugs went to a smaller centerbore than previous years. so you will want to find 6 on 5.5 bolt pattern wheels with close to a 0 offset (or with backspacing that will be close to half the width, so an 8 inch wheel will have 4" backspace) same with the toyota, way too much offset but the centerbore should fit. (should!)

a good set that will fit and has been done to death is the 73-87 chevy 4x4 truck wheels. should be pretty cheap and plentiful, look for "6 lug rallies"

Well yeah, the tires are shot, but that's a sweet looking truck. Great start!

The local hotrod shop said they might have some for me. Using "rally wheels" in crudlist seemed to help get some good returns. Just need to reach out and check them out.

Re: Finding basic wheels/tires for 3100 pickup

Why don't you just buy a set of used tires that match the size of what the dead tires on it are and use those rims for roller get by rims until you figure out what you are going to do for "that" set of rims and tires.

It doesn't make much to pull one set of what could be get by rims off and replace them with another set of freshly purchased get by rims to roll it around on.

If you can buy rollers for $100, go for it. you have a lot of work to do to get it driveable.
After you get it driveable, you are going to do body work and interior before you pick paint, wheels, chrome, etc.
Unless you can find roller tires for almost free, I wouldn't spend any money on wheels yet..

I changed to a F**d bolt pattern due to my rear end choice. Found a decent set of rollers on CL for 60.00 of an exploder

Good thinking. Making some calls next week to the auto shop to see if they have any they are throwing out that would fit the rim. It's a wide one with the current tire being a 295/50R15

275/50/15 will fit also and it's a more popular size

I have a set of 15" 6 lug takeoffs with tires that hold air. They're in va though, I'm sure the shipping would be up there. They have the trim rings and moon covers.
