Yes I agree that is an absolutely gorgeous truck. It appears to be a painstakingly perfect restoration.

Only thing I am curious about is that it has a hydraulic clutch. I have not seen a '63 C10 or C20 with a hydraulic clutch. Maybe it is a K20 thing? I see it also has a generator. A '63 should have an alternator. Maybe this is a very early production '63?

Good question Captain. Agreed, I though the slave cyl went bye bye after 62.

This is one of those trucks were you can look and look and say to yourself - yep, the builder did THAT right, and did THAT right, and did THAT right. The white grille surround is there. The black background. The details. The lamp post black wood. Wow.

Anyone else seen a master n slave cyl setup on a 63 k20 before? Same same on generator.

Yes, that truck is beautiful, I would love to have it. I will definitely be painting my bolts in the bed though.

I almost think that's a '62 with a '63 grille and badges.
Generator, hydraulic clutch on the master cylinder, and '60-'62 radiator and fan shroud.

Also, would the non-Custom Cab have chrome around the vent window?
Finally, the bed floors were painted after assembly--the hardware should all be painted black.

GREAT truck, but something doesn't add up with the grill, clutch and radiator.

The k trucks had the 235ci in 63, maybe why the gen. Also i thank the k's had the hyd clutch also in 63. Only thing it doesn't have is the org spicer hubs? I think jon on here has a 63 ktk?

Would have to be very early 63 to have YELLOW plates ....I have 63 C20 with 283, alternator, steel tube offset upper hose,fiberglass shroud, clutch linkage and BLACK calif plates ....Looks like a factory half bred... Love to know what the cab mount spacing is .. As said above bumper says 62, HYD. clutch says 62, gen says 62 and yellow plates say 62

posted VIN looks like a 63 and there is no claim those are original yellow plates that I can see. Pretty sure one can get yom plates in CA, but it's been a while since I lived there. frame comments may be onto something though, good detective work!

Yes, this '63 appears to be early production. Early production first design '63 4x4's used carryover '62 4x4 componets, including the 235, 261 etc, until the regular production second design was released.

My understanding YOM plate would have to be stamped or tagged 63 (as it is registered as a 63) and 63 is first year of black plates. The yellow plates could or would have been issued in late 62 (early 63 year model)

"carry over components" in this case seems to mean everything but the grill and badges.

I can't tell bumper bolt spacing differences unless they're side-by-side, but the firewall is different for the hydraulic master cylinder.

The VIN number IS a '63... However, according to the decoders I've found, a couple things don't make sense;
The listed VIN is: 3K2530103250

So, two things: All the VIN decoders I see list the 5th digit as a 4 for pickup truck, this is a 3, and I found a page that lists that as "Cab and Chassis," not a pickup.

The number after that should be a letter for the assembly plant. I didn't see a "O" assembly plant listed, though the same spot on my Suburban's VIN is a 0.
I don't know if it would make a difference, but my Suburban was originally a Forestry Service truck. A Cab And Chassis 4x4 could have been a fire truck or other government vehicle. Does anybody know if a 0 or O in the vin for assembly plant designates government vehicle?


But finally, the last four digits are the production number of the truck--in this case, 3,250th to roll off the assembly line.

By the time they got to the 3,250th truck, I strongly doubt they were still using hold-over parts.

If you believe this truck is a little fishy, your barking up the wrong tree. It's good to question everything, but, '63 4x4's were a late off the line at GM, due to so many changes in there 2WD line. O is for Oakland assembly plant. Oakland closed in '63 and assembly moved to the new larger Fremont assembly plant 30 miles south. This truck is a great representation of the way GM built a '63 K 20, it nice to see people finnally taking these rare pieces of Chevy truck history seriously.

The 60-63 k trucks do not have the early wide x frame. the frame is similar to a c30-40 frame. The plates could be just add on yom here in ca. The 0 in the vin after the 3 i Oakland ca assm plant. still very nice tk.

That's good info--especially about the Oakland plant. I couldn't find that anywhere, including the VIN decoder listed on this site.

What does the "3" in the VIN indicate, for body style? Other sources I've seen indicate a pickup truck has a "4" in that spot.

Definitely a nice truck, either way. I didn't know there was a First and Second series for the '63s, which is awesome information.

YES they do NOT have X frame they have a ladder frame... BUT the bumper bolt pattern im sure would be the same as the X frame and DID they make a special cab for the 4X4? or is the front cab mounting points wider on 60/62 4x4 also? like it is on C10/20s

The fact that it has the hydraulic clutch makes perfect sense to me. If the 63 k series trucks were using older equipment like the 235/261 then they would also need to use the hydraulic clutch because they couldn't have a 235/261 with a mechanical clutch since they would need a different Bellhousing and therefore changing the motor mounts so it probably made more sense to just use the hyd clutch

LV, this is a picture of that same 62 from barret Jackson, it has 6 lugs making it a k10 so I didn't think it's the same truck as the 63 k20
