I want to put my gas tank under the bed. I dont want it to hang down too low, because I am going to put air bags on it then. I know that you can use a blazer tank, but think that it hangs down low. Is there another one that I am not aware of or does someone know of a fuel cell that will work. If you have picts of the install that would be great too.

If you going to custom fab a tank any way, why not make it bigger to start.....yeah my truck is lowered a bit, but i still feel 20 plus gallons should fit in there without too much depth eh?

The price of the tanks are really reasonable. The one in the pics is 18 gallon version with straps, sending unit, filler assembly and all required hardware. The price on that one is $325 + shipping. Shipping is around $20-25 bucks. More in some places and less in others. Let me know if I can help you out. And yes, we can probably tweak the size to get about 20 gallons in there. Hey FuelCellGuy, Can the filler be positioned behind the license plate OR just above it on a step bumper without loosing capacity in the tank? I was thinking that I'd put the plate on a sprung hinge like on 70ies fullsize cars & never have to worry about what side the pump is on... See my bumper? Is it doable? Thanx

I wouldn't recommend trying to fill it from the rear. One reason is that the filler neck would only allow you to fill it halfway. The top of the tank protrudes quite a bit higher where you would want to fill it. I recommend putting a access door in the bed floor for the filler plate access. In this case, it still doesn't matter which side of the pump you pull up to. Here's a pic of the filler plate.

I got a tank from WES and it's been in for about a year. I put the filler in the wheel tub. Haven't had any problems. I THINK it holds about 20 gal.

OK, this maybe a stupid question but how do you know where to put the filler hole location on these custom tanks without it hitting a strip that holds a wooden bed together. Do you guess and then if it hits, you modify the strip.

Another thing for those of you that run a marine style cap and a custom tank, how are you connecting the cap and tank? I assume its with a piece of hose but there wouldn't seem to be alot of room between the bed, tank and the bottom of the cap to clamp it all together. How do you keep the hose from twisting or kinking?

The marine style cap attaches directly to the tank itself. The actual location of the cap will be determined by what type bed floor you are using. These are fully built to YOUR specs. We can put the cap anywhere on the top of the tank. OR we can provide a pipe stub for you to slip a hose over. The possibilities are endless. Later, FuelCellGuy

Just another option, this tank is built and ready to go out the door, price is $275.00, you supply & mount the sender in the provided "bung" (see attch. pic). (that is why it is cheaper). This unit is set up for side fill. Tank bolts to bottom of frame rails in spare tire location. Tank is made from 3003 alloy, .120" thick, baffled & holds 18 gallons, and does not require any mods to bed cross members. Add to the price cost of shipping from zip 67152.

beware of ANY aluminum tank that mounts with flanges welded to the tank. Seen too many with microscopic hairline stress cracks that seep and leak. Just a warning. Later, FuelCellGuy

Thats interesting Fuelcellguy, I don't know about the ones you can buy from CPP or "No Limit" that are built that way, but the one in my 71 has been there for 3 years now with no leaks. Haven't looked lately for any microscopic stress cracks. Are these cracks in the tank body by the welds? Not saying it's not possible, just haven't experienced this condition.

my neighbor has a street rod and it had an aluminum cell in when he bought it. It had hairline cracks in it. But to side with you, I do remember that whoever mounted his tank initially, did not use ANY kind of rubber insulators. This could be the reason for the cracks. When I saw his tank, I decided not to build them like that. The flange method probably works fine in some vehicles. They ALL need rubber at the mounting point or over the straps to allow some cushion when the frame tweaks. Our tanks are just about the same, .125, baffled, except I use 5052. More puncture proof but it is HELL to bend in the brake. Later, FuelCellGuy
