Turn switch adapter

Poor picture, but I'm holding the "half moon" plug with what I believe is an adapter. By chance were some adapters factory? If so, is the variance by year or?

Have to say the repair manual throws me at times. Unless I'm missing the point, it says "don't have to remove the column to replace switch" and then goes onto explain how you disconnect the wires at the half moon plug using an $80 part. So my thought is why should I (ha!)? Having removed the signal and transmission housing once, it seems a waste of time to do otherwise. That and the wire cover under the column pops out much easier (less prone to damage) with the trans. housing removed.

I don't have a replacement switch yet, but I take it the purpose of the adapter is because the plugs on the turn switches vary? Looks like a half moon plug would slide through the housings no problem.


On another note, my switch has the black hazard button. Word is that switch is supposed to be for tilt, which mine isn't. I hear the correct switch for non-tilt has the red hazard button. I suppose this switch could have been replaced before I got the truck in 1989. Don't know the reasons for any differences or what they are less the hazard. Perhaps a "tilt column" turn switch works for a non-tilt column but not vise versa.

I would say that it had been replaced some time. Most generic switches came with that adapter to mod them to the 67-72 style harness.

The non tilt columns do have the Red Switch and you can get one from the Vendors. I got mine from Tom AKA Tkorinek.

I ordered and aftermarket switch for a non tilt and it cam with the adapter and a black knob. I didn't like the adaptor thing or the black knob so ordered a factory correct one from ECE. I am sure the black knob and adapter would have worked just fine, but to me the look was everything.
