Cluster Lighting

Anyone changed out the lighting in their gauge cluster ??? Mine has no lights now so I need to order a new set and came across this

i put this up once b4 --- anyone out there know what vehicle would have had these interior lights? -- i pulled them out of a car many many years ago --but cannot remember what it was .----i do recall that they were located in the back corner of the cars interior.

Courtesy sail panel lights, probably out of 60's or early 70's passenger car. Probably upper end, Buick, Olds or Caddy, etc. I have never seen any with the off on feature.

Are they metal or plastic? what are the #s on the back side that can faintly be seen in the pictures?

connectors and insulating braid look like 60s ford. mustang used lights like that in the back but they didnt have an on off. my bet would be a FLM 4 door.

your original question, yes you can use those LED bayonet lights but keep in mind that they cant be dimmed without a special chip, they will be as bright as they are and you wont be able to easily change that.

those old lights are probably ford items. they had to put them in so drivers could have light to read the paper while waiting for the tow truck.

i am in joedoh's camp on this bulb issue. gotta make sure they are dimmable otherwise they are full on or full off.

not sure red led lights would work in the cluster, i didn't see where they were dimable either
for light dispersion you can't beat the original dash lights
and yes change them all while you have the cluster out
i can't remember the numbers but 56 for turn and highbeam, 57 for cluster lighting

Those lights that go inside the rear sail panels are usually called "reading" lights designed for that rude passenger who wants to read after dark. They often get hotter than a lot of other lights will because of the output.

I like the idea of the LED lights that you showed Bajabob but don't know anything about them. Less draw for the same light is always a good deal in my book though.

the only numbers i could find on theses lights was inside the bezel
# 4374020 -----the bezels are all metal and turn left to right for on/off
v v cool interior lights ----if i could only remember what they came out of .
there is no 'GM' OR ''FoMoCo '' or any kind of stamping like that on them .

I've been buying and selling obsolete dealer inventories for decades, the number you posted just had a Mopar ring to it. A quick google search and there it was, it took maybe 10 min.
