1972 GMC patina/bagged build

Ive been told that my previous thread title was a little misleading i couldn't figure out how to change the title so i decided to start over and delete the other one. This isnt my first but I am new at this. Im doing this to #1 show off my truck #2 get feed back and advice from others.

Im David I live in Knoxville TN. I like long walks on the beach, sunsets, and im kidding. I have my full time job and My Father, Brother, and myself build out of our garage and normally only do 1 or 2 cars a year. Ive been building for about 25 years. As of today I have a 1960 Belair, 1947 Ford truck, 1950 Willis truck, 1965 Impala, 1968 C10, and the truck Im doing the thread for 1972 GMC LWB. At some point ill post some pics of my other vehicles but Ill focus on the 72 today.

The Truck im building is a 1972 lwb, inline 6, 3 speed on the column, 2 wheel drive. I purchased it about 3 months ago for $800.00 and drove it home. I chose this truck because I loved the patina and in all it is a solid truck.

Plans:
I want this to be my driver and I want to spend the least $$ I can.
Chevy V8, 350 turbo trans. power steering, power brakes, shorten the frame and original bed. Bags, step notch, 4 link, z the front. relocate the fuel tank, raise the bed, wheels, keep original trim and bumpers. I do want to paint the bumpers and grill tho (Black or White) haven't decided. There are a lot of these trucks so I want to try and make this as unique to me as possible.

As of know I have purchased wheels, bags, step notch, tank, compressors, 4 link, bag mounts.
I have a newer good running 305 and 350 trans, I also have all the parts for the power steering and power brakes. I have a auto steering column also.

i can see lots of potential there. i like that you're going for unique, looking forward to seeing what you do with it. post a pic of the 68 too when you have a chance.

Thanks 68bowtie. Ill post a few pics of my other trucks in a few. I'm gonna catch this one up I have the truck pulled apart, got the the frame shortened, the z started, and got the step notch in. I also got a lot of the parts in. Here's some pics to catch up.

few more pics almost caught up. Here's a pic of the 68 still finishing it up basically just have to put the interior in and do some of the finish stuff and it will be done. The 68 is actually my fathers truck and we have been working on it for about 15 years. lol. We always had other things to finish but its finally done.

So Its been a while Ive gotten a lot done since the last post. I have the 4 link in and everything works as it should. I also put in some plates to beef up the frame. I still need to weld a little more and clean everything up. I mounted the fuel cell last weekend. Waiting on the drop spindles to come in so I can finish up the front. I also need to dish the lower control arm. Then I can start mounting the bags and running the lines. Im a little stuck on the valves. I had planed on just doing manual valves and running hard lines. But now im kinda thinking about doing electric valves. Any advice. Heres some new pics.

So once again it has been a while. But iv'e gotten more finished and started changing a few things as well. I'm basically starting all over on the rear. Ive decided to do a 6 link in the rear, with a watts link. I'm getting my metal cut now and have all the bar ends and Heim on order. I didn't like the movement on the axle. So decided just to start fresh. But I did clean up the control arms and get them and all the new front suspension parts mounted. Here's a pic of the lower control arms before I welded on the bottom plate. Thats really the only new pic I have I will try and get some more pics this week on my days off.

Been really busy these past 2 weeks but im hoping to get a little bit done tomorrow. im off and the wife and all 3 kids are out of town. Ill def post some pics of the new rear brackets they look a lot like the KP Components brackets.

Clean freak here is a few pics of the 47 I was telling you about. This is my last build absolutely love this truck but its not big enough to haul all my girls so im selling it when i finish this truck. let me know what you think.

Looks like you've got things figured out. The 47 has a little to much patina for my liking , but your gmc should end up right on the mark.

I have been slacking on making a new post. Sorry it has taken so long for anyone who was following my thread and I will try and do better in the future. On another note I have gotten a lot done in the past few months. It will prob take a few posts just to catch things up. At first I was using a triangulated 4 link but once it was installed I didn't like the way it all moved so I ended up cutting it all off and starting over. I ended up with a 6 link and a KP Watts link. I absolutely love it its smooth and it gives me plenty of lift. I was trying to do this as cheap as possible so I fabed a lot of my own brackets and parts. I did a 3/4 body drop to lay pinch weld. Here are a few up to date pics

I ment to reply earlier to this as ling as you dont lower the cab mounts over 3/4 of an inch you dont have to move the floor and that is just enough to lay the pinch weld instead of the frame rails

Welp as of yesterday my plans on the truck have changed. Yesterday I picked up a 2000 GMC Sierra with a 4.8 and a 4l60 The truck was running and driving. Guy was going through a divorce and had to get rid of the truck fast, So I gave him $800 in cash and drove it home. Now I have a new motor and trans for the truck. Yes I said $800 couldn't pass that up.

Its been a min since Ive been able to make a post of the progress. Ive been moving and trying to get thing sorted so ill have the time to get this truck finished. I finally got the front end together and the motor in. Funny after getting the LS motor I still went with the old school motor I just could bring myself to put it in I love the look and sound of the old motors. I locked up my phone last week and this is the only pic I have but I will be getting some work done and some more pics soon. Oh thats my baby girl in the Pic she loves daddys truck

I got the bed sides cut down and the bed put back on the truck this weekend. I kinda got re-motivated and started getting things moving. Im not gonna be able to touch it again till this weekend tho. But heres a few pics of where im at. Im really happy with the way its turning out. Ive build several "pretty" classics but just started doing the rat rod and I have to be honest its a relief to know if you make a mistake you can just call it adding character and keep going. Hopefully Ill get the inner wells cut out and installed this weekend.
