Change of plans I think - Time to go LS

Hey all,

So in my build I have been putting together kind of a frankenmotor, which is a Gen 1 SBC, but with LS-tech via sequetion FI and spark, coil packs, etc.

Well the wife and I have been discussing and eventual move to a big city in a few years, where I won't have a garage. I'm feeling like I should move up my LS plans, so that I build something that's easier to maintain, and perhaps more reliable.

As fun and unique as the frankenmotor would be, it just wouldn't be as practical as having a tried and true LS swap.

So some questions:

Any good sources for a nice LS2/LS3? I haven't decided if I'm building one myself, or going turn key on a crate motor (or somewhere inbetween).

Any preferences on motor mounts (ECE?).

Headers that are known to fit an LS2/LS3 and clear our frames?

I'll start doing some digging through build threads, but if anyone has some easy pointers, I'm all ears!

Cheers all

Here's an LS2 in Portland https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/ptd/5794398435.html

If I were ready for a motor this is what I would buy.

Parts compatibility is critical. Try to get everything from the same donor vehicle, especially the ECU and the DBW throttle modules.

I used ECE motor mounts with great success. Doug Thorley make headers that fit to a tee with the ECE motor mounts. I can attest to this because they used my truck to make the prototype.

Awesome info, and thanks! I'm either getting everything from a donor, or going to order a turnkey package. That would cost a lot more, but would also rapidly speed up my implementation time.

Re: Change of plans I think - Time to go LS

So I already have some CPP engine perches:

Anyone know if I could combine them with these: http://www.classicperform.com/Store/...s/LS1-KU-P.htm

Or am I better off selling the perches and going for a known entity altogether?

Or perhaps the Dirty dingo mounts attached to the CPP brackets. Just not sure if the Doug T headers would clear . . . http://dirtydingo.com/shop/pages.php?pID=9&CDpath=3

I used stock stands, $30.00 ICT Billet eBay adapters with 1 7/8 Speed Engineering long tubes. The stands are in the stock location, everything fits fine.
