battery cut off switch.

I have a question I Just got running my 1972 k10 with a 5.3 ls and right now its my DD but I want to put a kill switch but for now I just want to put a battery cut off switch like the ones that run off the negative wire off the battery but since I have a 5.3 LS EFI do you guys think it will mess up the main computer for the motor?

It shouldn't be an issue, the computer should hold memory when the battery is disconnected. The LS is used in a bunch of racing applications that require the battery shut off switch. We run them on all of our LS engines, I'd recommend one for anyone with a vehicle that might sit for any time. The one I mainly use is the Allstar Performance unit, works great and never had an issue with one.

thanks for the advice! Now I feel better about using one.

I put an LS3 in a Camaro and it had some parasitic small 1W drain somewhere, so I had to unplug the battery when parked for more than a day or two, and so it always got reset, and it never bothered it.

I don't doubt there are fuel trims and so on that would be handy to have kept, but it learns them again fast enough it seems.

Yeah My fear is that when I park it and hit the switch that when I come back to the truck that the computer will be reset and right now the truck runs good, my tuner tune my truck almost to the max before i have to run bigger injectors, So i don't want to lose the tuner and the truck not to run right.

I have seen a disconnect with a by-pass wire for retaining the memory of electronics,but I don't remember where. Maybe google could help?

Way back in my mechanic days, when computers first came out on cars if we changed a battery out, the computer would lose all memory and settings. To combat this, they came out with a simple plug that plugged into the cigar lighter and a 9 volt battery on the other end. This maintained enough juice while the battery was disconnected. Dont know if this might help in your situation but it might if a cut off switch causes problems.

Loss of battery voltage won't erase your tune.
