Center Link & Tie Rod Ends

I have been gathering up all the steering parts that I need to re build my Trucks steering frame stuff. My trucks PO's had installed 92 C10 Spindles & Disc Brakes for an up grade but looking at it a little closer and Driving it the Mod's aren't right in many ways so I went and found another Center link that just happened to have all the old ends on it and was measuring it and was also measuring mine to make sure I will have it some what close to being Aligned. The Tie Rod end threaded part that go into the Adjusting Sleeves are a little thicker than the New ones I bought, both of the two my existing one on the truck and also the one I went out and bought. I used my non Digital Calipers and measured both (used ones) and both are the same around .676 just under 11/16". The New one is a Moog part and it measures .625 5/8". So all that said WTF's going on with this. I have looked at 4WD that has a different Tie Rod and the 2WD 1/2 & 3/4 tons are No different same size 5/8". My truck is a 68 C10 LWB, originally had a I6 & Manuel Steering. Sorry for being long winded. Any help would be great, Thanks

Re: Center Link & Tie Rod Ends

5/8" tie tods are for 63-70 trucks.
The 71-72 and 73-87 trucks use the 11/16" tie rods but they are threaded the opposite direction of the 63-70 versions.
I don't understand why everyone is trying to reinvent the wheel.
Disc conversions are simple and straight forward if you use the correct parts.
Quit trying to use 88-98 spindles with the 63-87 a-arm geometry.

Keith I hope you are not getting on me " Quit trying to use 88-98 spindles" ect ect the spindles were already on my truck be for I bought it. I don't remember what year the Center Link was when I bought it, I'll have to look back and see what the Thread said about his parts being what year it was. As far as what will be used for replacing those POS 92 C10 spindles they will/are going to be from a 70 C10 so every thing has been bought for a 70 C10. I was going to re use the Tie Rod Adjusting Sleeves but not now, I'll have to buy them for a 70 and down truck. THANKS for setting me straight on the different sizes 5/8" 63-70 & 11/16" for 71-72 & 73-87's Moochus Grass e'ass LOL

There were no disc brakes in 1970.
So to use oem 1970 steering parts you need CONVERSION spindles to work with your current parts. These spindles are available EVERYWHERE in drop and stock heights for around $230.
The aftermarket has made it easy to add disc brakes to 1963-70 drum brake trucks.
No need to mix and match parts anymore.

BUT if you must use some 40+ Year old junk yard spindles.
Match your steering components to them.
So you will be buying 71-72 parts or you will be buying 73-87 parts.

I tried to spell out every possible scenario in this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=444823

I'm an old guy trying to save you guys all the headaches I went thru in the 1980's when all these cool parts weren't available.

Conversion spindles!
71-87 rotors bearings and calipers.
71-72 master cylinder and prop valve
Bend a few steel lines.
Done!

In our last PM I said I would take the old tie rods off to see if it really is different from the 63-70 center links. **Guess what the new (Moog) tie rods fit a little sloppy so I guess I really didn't get a 68 center like from a supporting member here I got a 71-72 or 73 & up center link. I will get in contact with him to discuss where we go from there. SO I guess I still am looking for a center link that will work on my 68 C10. O well
