installing edelbrock carb?
I'm installing a used edelbrock carb on my 305...do the mounting bolts need to be torqued or just tightened? also, how do you do adjustments on the 1406 carb?

I just did the same thing yesterday!!!
Did you use the spacer? or Did you not have too? I tightened them down untill Icouldnt turn them anymore, to make sure I would have that perfect fit.... As far as adjusting, what exactly do you mean? I had to adjust the timing and idel screw once I put mine on, but thats the easy part... As far as adjusting the gas and oil screws... I dont really know, except someone once told me that you have to turn them a little at a time and accelerate the engine, look for smoke or color of smoke and smell the exaust for either to much oil or gas... But thats the backyard way to do it... Thats how I did mine... Kind of a teadious project.... Hope I could help!!

Best way to tune it is to take a screwdriver and tighten one screw on the front first to where the engine starts to stumble. Then back about 1/2 turn. Repeat this on the other side screw and repeat till you think it's balanced out right.

Do NOT overtroque the mounting nuts. The base of your carb is aluminum and you can warp it. Say hello to vacuum leaks and possibly a gas leak.
I forget the exact torque figure, but there is oen out there. I'd say 20 ft lbs is plenty, along with a start washer or lock washer. Better you have to retighten them a little because they loosen up vs. buying another $250 carb. -- Mike
