1970 C20 Custom Camper Restoration AKA "Opa's Ride"

So, not quite a build thread, as I'm 5 years deep in it, but better late than never, I guess. This was my wifes' grandfathers "Opa" in Dutch, truck that he was tinkering with before he passed. He had bought it from a neighbor for $1 & had planned on restoring it. The body was in decent condition but mechanically had a lot of issues. The family was going to scrap it, but I convinced them it was worth saving & I would love restore it & keep it in the family.
So I towed it home and started the adventure.

Got her running with a new master and wheel cylinders, steering box and a tune up...

Drove her around for six months or so, threw on an intake and carb and "allegedly" over advanced the timing and blew the motor. So this showed up in the mail...

Kept it clean, simple & cheap, 290 hp crate, mild intake/carb, Summit headers, Flowmasters & some finned goodies. Pretty much everything new or rebuilt under the hood. The th350 trans "looked" rebuilt, so I installed a shift kit and ran with it...

Project was put on hold when I moved 1200 miles from So Cal to Washington state. Motor was barely broke in, but she made the long, hot trip w/o issue...

Doing a bit of work in the northwest, right before I got serious & put some hours
in.

This many...
80 grit discs.

Replaced passenger fender, welded three 2x2" patches on typical door spots, banged out about a dozen small dents. Overall sheet metal was in pretty rad condition. Used less than 2 pints body filler. Bed has two small dents on wells and tailgate was pretty much perfect. I assume it had a camper mounted for quite a while. I had tons of progress photos but unfortunately lost them when my computer crashed.

All prepped for paint, sprayed some U-POL 2K primer

Used Restoration Shop 2K urethane, olive drab & corvette white. This was my first time painting anything larger than a motorcycle tank and didn't want to spend too much in case I blew it. I wish I went with base/clear, next time...
Came out OK, little orange peel in the green, white laid down like glass.

Glass back in, painting hubcap reveal sucks...

AC delete was a pain in the ass, already had hood installed & had to undo the hinges and prop up w/o destroying paint.

Back on the road, little country drive...

Thats were I'm at currently, still got some work to do...
*Aluminum radiator
*Need to get heater dialed in, only blows one speed
*Going to install an overdrive trans I think 700R4 probably. The 4:11 rear end is great but too much for longer trips
*Install a bed kit
*Vintage Air unit maybe
*Also need a period camper/cabover
*Need a pass side Custom Camper C20 badge
