question for die hard original truck owners
this is just a question i was wondering if a 1969 c10 350 engine has any value or does it really matter if i were to toss it the engine i have is original from my 69 c10 but i have a diff engine in there cause the original seen better days bad lifters etc still ran when it was pulled but needs rebuild i just dont know if it worth anything i dont plan to rebuild it . but i would hate to chuck it if it would give a die hard a heart attack if you know what i mean.

I for one would have a heart attack, it is the Gen 1 SBC which has many successors. Engine production count is well into the millions.
Comp Cams makes a retrofit roller rocker kit to update it. If you were near me I would grab it in a heartbeat. |

I take pride in the fact that the 350 in my 69 is the one that they put in it at the factory. Not sure if others feel the same way, but you always hear the expression "numbers matching".
Having said all that, I get lousy gas mileage, and compared to my 98 Silverado 350, not a heckuva lot of performance...

It will have a higher nickel alloy content than any more recently-produced [in Mexico] SBC Mr Goodwrench block, and as such, has some value to builders, especially if never rebuilt before.

I also have a complete 350 that I pulled out of my 1970 C10. I'm in the process of an LS conversion. I need the space so if anyone is interested, give me a holar!

The block in my 69 is orange.
Are the 350s in these trucks necessarily 4 bolt main bearing blocks? And the timing chain setups, are they double row?

Being a NCRS member who restored a '58 Corvette which went on to win the NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence award as well as the Bloomington Gold award, I debated long and hard about replacing the original 350 in my '69. I eventually took the easy way out and bought a complete GM Performance Products crate 330 HP 350 with Vortec heads. The new engine performs great, but the last thing I'd do is part with the original. It may be valuable if a purist eventually buys my truck.

I can see using a different engine in the truck, but I would at least put the matching engine in storage. Not because it will make it worth more money, just because I love old cars and trucks and I like the idea of an old truck out there running around with the original engine.

i don't consider myself a purist, but definitely a huge fan of the originality of these trucks. i think there is value in keeping the original engine if the truck has potential of being restored to completely its individual factory specs. which could be a reality for unique and well optioned trucks. but if it's a plain jane and/or highly modified (like 98% of them) then i don't see any issue losing the original engine. these trucks never had "numbers matching" blocks anyway since there's no vin stamp, so technically a year correct block from another truck would be as "numbers matching" as anything for a restoration. so to answer the question as to value, there is little to no value. but like someone said above, it could mean something sentimentally to know it's the original truck. in that regard it comes down to whether YOU will have a heart attack.

Any time I replace an engine in a vehicle I keep the original, unless it doesn't have one. I am going to replace the tired 250ci I6 in my '67 with a 292ci this winter and I will keep the 250 and it will go with the truck if I sell it. I am also going to put a 5.3 LSx engine in the '71 Chevy long bed which originally had a 402 in it. It did not come with an engine so I don't have to worry about it..... LockDoc

If the casting # is 3970010 it is most probably a 4 bolt main. I have had several of these and all were 4 bolts. It is also the correct # for a large journal 302 z-28 motor, which was only produced in 1968-69. You can also take the crank out of a 307 and make a large journal 4 bolt 327
