NOS white hubcaps

Not mine, but I don't recall ever seeing another set, so passing along. Ad says 69-75 3/4 ton, but they are correct for '73 to '78 3/4 and 1 ton

Re: NOS white hubcaps

Asking for $1000. Is that what these are worth?

Not mine, but it seems people are charging what a body shop would charge to completely restore a typical dented up set.

Close, these painted versions are correct for '73 to '78 3/4 and 1 ton, in other words, the square door era.

I'll see if I can edit the original post then, if their listing is wrong I don't want to propagate bad info! Nope, board policy seems to expire Edit ability so too late now...

Re: NOS white hubcaps

when I read post 2 and saw the price, my gut instinct was "no, not worth it no matter what they look like"... But then I went to the link and looked at them. Now, no offense, but I prefer chev to GMC - everyone has a preference I guess. But these are GMC, and imho, a good bit more rare than chev 3/4t caps. I have a similar quality set of 69-72 white caps and didn't pay nearly as much for them - but I paid a pretty penny. And the GMCs are more rare. Even if they are 73+, the chev caps from the 73-75 era with gold bow ties are quick and easy swaps with a squirt of krylon true blue... And they are less prone to cracking than the true 69-72 chrome ones. Anyway, I've used both. Some even prefer the gold bow ties on our era. Anyway, I guess this is a good example of the market - something so simple that was probably a pile of throwaways in the 90's is now pulling down $1k. Hmm. Anyway - as folks always say - if someone will pay that much, then that's what they are worth. I tend to disagree with that mindset, but if I had a 75 GMC 3/4 that was fully restored and all I needed were the hubcaps, well, I'd try to find a way (and probably couldn't). It's sad if you're shopping for something like this, but quite encouraging if you're selling. The downside is that the price of these truly gorgeous NOS pieces is narrowing the number of folks that can play in the resto game. Eventually Floyd Garrett and Mr. Hendricks will own all the corvettes and musclecars in the US because nobody else can afford them anymore. (Btw, Floyd Garrett's museum is far and away the best one I've ever been to - Sevierville TN).

Re: NOS white hubcaps

I paid $1500 for the NOS chrome versions of these so I don't think $1000 is crazy... still hurts, but they're not making any more of them.

Painted ones would be something that could be restored from a decent used set, however, so demand could be less. I know when I was bidding on the chrome units I was one of 58 active bidders!

I gave Mt Dave a pair of N.O.S. Chevy painted caps for his low mile Custom/20 Longhorn, I told him, because they belonged on that truck

They're worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Even if I had a square body, they're not worth $1,000 to me.

Re: NOS white hubcaps

I notice the centers are "caved in", or concave, on each of them. That happened to one of my chrome ones when I tried to install it by hitting it dead center with a soft mallet - the wrong way. It oil-canned back out, so I was OK.

Have these been dented then? Or are the painted ones "innies" and the chrome ones "outies"?

I believe all of these caps in this year range are "in-ies".

Re: NOS white hubcaps

Weird, my stainless (or chrome, whatever for 1970) are outies. I could pop them in, I suppose! But they came in the GM bags as outies.

Re: NOS white hubcaps

Are your caps correct for 73-78? The pre73 outies are more desirable than the innies.

Re: NOS white hubcaps

69-72 are outties with black paint and 73-ups are innies with white or stainless centers.

I have an oddball 69-72 innie gmc cap, will pull it out and post a pic later.

Great info - how certain are you on it? Like should a person pass on these for a 72 because they're innies?

Certainly the paint scheme seems 73+ to me but I'm not a hubcap guru.

I "made" one by mistake pushing it on via the center, but was able to pop it back out. Is it possible that's what happened to that one?

Nope, center is different and it will not pop out. I have all types of the caps listed here and have made "outies" before, this one is unlike others I have had. It is a chrome cap.

Pic. Left is a 69-72 chrome cap, but it's an innie, and the center is "shorter" than the 73-up cap on the right.

Re: NOS white hubcaps

The 73-up cap is easily made an "outie" and will stay that way with a little heat persuasion. The 69-72 cap will not pop out in the center. This cap has the same paint scheme as your 69-72 caps Davepl, but I have never had one that is an innie with a shorter center like this one.

Re: NOS white hubcaps

I have a silver painted steel cap like that oddball chrome one. It has black paint and is an innie w/shorter center cone. I wondered if it wasn't from a post '72 ValuVan, since '69 was the only year they were silver on trucks.

I guess there are odd exceptions, but what I stated in my prior post is accurate info. At least the general rule. same as stainless after '72 and chrome before '73. I've seen exceptions...but you go by the paint and convex/concave.

Personally, the later design is most desirable. I have a pair of correct N.O.S. rear caps for my K2500, but I prefer the later with no black paint, concave center and stainless.
