Control arm shaft--when to replace??

Anyone know a good rule of thumb for deciding whether or not to replace the control arm shafts on a 67-72? I've got the whole suspension apart and now seems like a good time to replace them if needed

At least...

... all of the bushings, etc. Don't forget the U bolts. We had a recent thread from a guy that had one fail.

It's hard to tell if they're wearing out or not. The only thing to do is swap in new ones, it's a bit of a job but easier than the ball joints IMO. Once it's all back together you want that tight front end so why take a chance on slop in your control arm bushings. That was my thinking anyways.
You'll need a particularly large wrench.
