see pictures of other immaculate frames, beautiful clean engines, and super clean body panels and want to go outside and rip your truck down to nothing?? Then I remember it's my daily driver and I can't take her apart yet. Everytime I see these great trucks I'm reminded of little fluid drips, caked on grease, and overall muck on the under carriage. It just makes me want to get a motorcycle again so I can take the truck apart, but ten I won't leave the bike alone. TORTURE!!!!!!!

VENT? I spend all day building customers trucks to what they want and when i lock the doors i get into a 70 3/4 ton 6cyl t-350 no air no power steering no radio no cig lighter leaky door seals primered in 6 colors 5 years ago busted seat springs no chrome anything fogged leaky windshield torn dashpad non matching door panels. I bought her 10 years ago and she will be my favorite truck till i die. We work good together and she has never left me stranded or balked at a heavy load. Kinda like old leather not much to look at but real comfortable. The restored or custom trucks i have sit in their garages, waiting for holidays that never seem to come.

That would be why once I get my truck done, ( if I ever get it started), I do plan on lowering it a bit but since I live up here in Salt land ( even though I am not driving it in the winter) I will get it undersprayed ( to help prevent rust from coming back) and I plan on driving it and using it like a truck.

So I just want to make it look good and drive good. It will not be a show truck cause if I spent the $$$$ on it to make it a show truck then it would sit and wait for a sunny day when I am off to "maybe" go for a drive.

If you got it DRIVE IT!!

I know first hand how hard it is to keep the bottom clean. When you have a lifted truck you can see so much. I have spent many hours with a bucket and mit washing axles, etc. I actually got a "Best of Show" for the undercarriage this summer. Someone noticed!

That really is beautiful SLS!!! How long did that take you? What kind of paint did you use, or is it powder coated? I'm assuming you had your headers jet hot coated?

Nothing fancy...as it is going to be driven regularly.

A couple of cans of GUNK degreaser...the smallest tip on my pressure washer (with a bit of wire brushing/scraping) and I got it all clean enough to eat off of.

The black is good ol' gloss Rustoleum (3 coats), the spindle and coil springs are Slate Grey Rustoleum (3 coats), the caliper is red VHT high-temp (3 coats), and the headers and dust shields are VHT high-temp aluminum. The calipers, dust shields and spindles also got a couple of coats of urathane clear coat for good measure.

It just started out as a brake job and I got a bit carried away. The bed is off the truck so I'm doing the same thing to the rear (plus new driveshaft and coil springs)...I'll post pics when it is finished.

I'll finish the under-cab section this winter when I lift it to replace the supports. Like the late, great Johnny Cash song: "One Piece At A Time"..LOL.

After seeing N2TRUX pics I see that I still have a bit of detailing to go (the ball joint doohickies/tie rods). I like the way his looks.

I started with the frame and fully agree with mudder; they're a helluva lot nicer to work on when they're clean! Once upon a time, like most of us, I had the greatest hopes that I would have the most insane '69 show truck in the world....that all came crashing down when the financial factor came into play

, and now I am completely fine with having a clean, restored daily driver that I'm hoping will be as reliable as mothertruckers rig.

The clean undercarriages are nice for show, but how do you keep'em clean for a daily driver? I put 50+ miles a day on my 72 stepside, and counting some road trips about 25,000 since I finished it May '02 (I think I'm responsible for the increase in gas prices since then - sorry).

Well, mine doesn't look so good, but it goes down the road just fine. I have replaced the shocks, so at least I have some clean parts there!

Sometimes I think I can hear the rust eating the truck when I lie awake at night.

But, I guess it will have to stay that way until I finish some other projects.

All I know is the guys here on the board are totally to blame for my obsession. I started to tare my truck apart before I ever joined this board. I was planing to just rip it apart paint the frame and slap it back togeather. But now 2 years later I still have a frame sitting here on the floor waiting for the $$$$$$$$, to come in. I wish I would have never seen Mudder67's beautiful truck. Now I am on a mission, to make mine look as nice as his. Granted it will not be for a while but I am working on it.

I know the way that you feel jorgensensc ! :p

That looks like mine dose right now ! Don't you miss driving it ? Did you powder or paint the frame ? Just wondering ! Looking good anyway I like the way a frame looks sitting on the ground. Keep up the good work !
