Windshield washer mod

I've done this mod to my last two squarebodies, in both the washer pump went and I was never happy with the rebuild performance. In the new truck that I've got, the pump just wasn't pumping great, plus the small tank is a pia.

So, headed to the junk yard, picked up tank for an early '90's Chev for the grand total of $5 and wired it in. Much bigger tank and the washer fluid fire hoses out the nozzles now.

I'd upload some pics, but at the moment the site keeps saying I am missing some "security token".

Re: Windshield washer mod

What's nice with the newer tank is that the pump is on the tank. It's a much higher volume pump so if sprays waaay better.

Re: Windshield washer mod

I just recently went to the U pull it and bought the same tank! I think I took it off a 90. I put some water in it and hooked it up to a battery, and it really sprays well. I looked up replacement motors just in case, and they are easily available and cheap.

Re: Windshield washer mod

Starting in 1985 GM divorced the washer from the wiper motor. You can find these pump-on-bottle setups on the ST series too.

Re: Windshield washer mod

Nice. I added an aftermarket electric pump and bypassed the pump attached to the wiper motor, keeping the stock reservoir.
