What is the max drop in the rear?

What is the max drop in the rear with out cutting the bed floor? 70 gmc, swb with leaf springs. I'm looking for 8, I did 3in drop spindles and 3in drop springs, 6 to 5 lug conversion and drum to disc conversion on the front today. I've bought a flip kit for the rear, but I'm out of time for the day to mess with the back. Thank you for any info.

Not yet, I'm trying to see if I can get away with not cutting the bed floor, I bought the flip kit. I don't know if I should get 3in block or the extended spring hanger?

Maybe if you measure from the top of the rear differential to the bed floor that should give you some idea on how much drop, but you do need to allow for some suspension travel so it doesn't bottom out every time you go over bumps.

Pretty much this. Alternatively, you could just measure from rear end tube to frame minus suspension travel and that is max drop on an unmodified frame with no worry of hitting the bed floor. If you choose to do a c-notch, that will give you about 2.5" more available space to drop. Bottomed out on a c-notch will put the top of the differential just touching the bottom of the bed floor.

Re: What is the max drop in the rear?

I have a 69 short step with leaf springs. I did the DJM flip kit and it dropped the truck 7 1/4". I have almost 2" clearance above axle housing and the 1/4" urethane bump pad that came with the kit.

That is the practical limit IME. It is driveable without any real issues at that level but does bounce off the pad on sharp impacts.

My opinion is that 8" is too low without the C notch. 7 is doable.

Thank you for the info. I can do the notch, but I was hoping to not have to ge in to the bed floor.

Re: What is the max drop in the rear?

I never measured on mine because the frame was the closest interference area, but that would be a deal killer for me. I'm pleased with the look and function of the truck at 7".

Re: What is the max drop in the rear?

I may not need 8. I did 6 in the front, so I'm just guessing.

Re: What is the max drop in the rear?

I went 7 in the rear and I did the frame notch and bed raise. I think 5-5.5 inches would be max without mods. My front has 2.5 spindles and 2 inch lowered springs.

Re: What is the max drop in the rear?

I've already did the 3in drop spindles and 3in drop springs. I like where the front is sitting.

Is it drivable with the 6 in front. I have always heard 5. 5 1/2 max. Just curious how it rides.

I went with 6" rear springs and have plenty of clearance with shorter bump stops. I've yet to bottom it out.

It may hit the front inner fenders. My front tires are 29 inches tall and I should go down to 27 tall tire as it just rubs on a big bump.

Block only works with coil springs (I hear). Start with the flip and then see if you need the hangers. Here's my experience on a longbed. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=577529
