front suspenstion parts (Canadians wanted!)

Looking to completely redo my front end this winter, steering, shocks, suspension bushings and anything I may not immediately think of (I know enough about cars just to be dangerous lol)

I am looking for a "list" of parts I will need specifically for this truck, 69 GMC 1500 C/K.

I also want to find a good Canadian parts source around Edmonton (Cold lake preferably)

It's either a "C" or a "K". The suspension parts are different. Let us know which one it is.

I believe it is a custom kamper, I will confirm. It is long box with H/D rear springs.

Scott's Super Trucks in Penhold, Alberta (near Red Deer) is a great place for GM truck parts. Super knowledgeable and a great guy to deal with. I've had parts sent to Regina on a few occasions and have nothing but good things to say. His website isn't the best but just give him a call.

I agree. Scott's is good. Suspension stuff you can get at any good auto parts store and on line suppliers. Typically a full front suspension involves inner and outer tie rods, new sleeves, upper and lower ball joints, idler and pitman arms, upper and lower control arm bushings and possibly the center link if it's been damaged along the way.

I'd consider upgrading to a later disc brake front end if you are going to put all that into it. The parts are different non disc to disc and years have differences. I'd use a 73-87 set up. The parts are cheaper and really easy to get.

Do I need to make any modifications to make the 73-87 parts fit?

You would need at the least the spindles and the associated other front end hard parts. If you can find a whole take out cross member the whole thing will bolt in complete with only enlarging a couple holes. You could also swap the newer control arms to your existing cross member. You would have to reroute some brake lines and of course would need the calipers, flex lines and rotors. If you can find a whole cross member complete you can get it all at once and then rebuild what you need as you would have on the older stuff. Later discs are light years better than the old drums and the parts are far more robust. Modern rubber bushed control arms will ride a bit better and quieter. I guess the down side on a 69 would be you'd have to buy new 6 bolt conversion rotors or swap your rear to 5 bolt to keep the same bolt pattern on all 4 corners.

I just figure if you are going to pile the dollars into new parts an upgrade might be a good thing in the process. It definitely complicates things.

I usually take a page form a catalogue such as this:

Then you can point out the parts you want to anyone. Easy to e-mail/scan/fax etc that way

Most suppliers I've run into have their own part # system..and some have their own catalogues as well.

I concur, have bought form him a few times. Very knowledgeable and has a huge inventory in stock.
