71 locking hub question
A couple weeks ago my driver side spindle nut backed off and took out everything from the knuckle out. So I got my upgraded parts installed and I get to the locking hubs and there's a large tapered spring behind the locking mechanism. Now, my passenger side has the spring and the drivers side the spring got mangled.
My family's had this truck since 1983 and when my dad bought it it had warn premium hubs on it. I went to 4 wheel parts yesterday and they explained to me that spring isn't needed. Any help would be appreciated Here's the spring I might need. http://www.quad4x4.com/cgi-bin/comme...cton&key=40050

Re: 71 locking hub question
Are you asking if you do or don't need the spring or if anyone has an extra?

Re: 71 locking hub question
If I need the spring or not. Took a look at it last night and couldn't see a need for that spring, but I've little experience at this.

Re: 71 locking hub question
I'm pretty sure it is in there to keep the hub unlocked when not in use. My 73 D44 has them on both sides. They look like they might be a cheap - not premium Warn hub.

Re: 71 locking hub question
I found this video
https://youtu.be/txoD4_kQ-3I at about 2:30 you can see he pulls out the locking hub and you can see there's no spring behind the hub. This is what's confusing to me. Then I pulled the passenger side hub it sprung out because of the spring. But here it just sits there.

Re: 71 locking hub question
No spring needed with a Warn hub. Locking mechanism is different than the original Spicer style
