Old number 7
So I couldn't stand it any longer and brought number 7 home about a month ago. The back story is my buddy bought this truck new in 1991 and drove it 251,214 miles with love as a work truck with a pipe rack and completely stock everything.
The fuel pump quit and he towed it home 8 years ago with the plan to fix it. So there she sat for 8 years. You know the old saying "I will fix it someday" and it's not for sale. He lives outside of New Orleans and I did too until 6 years ago when I moved back to Texas. When I left I asked again if he would sell it to me and I got the same story, not for sale! So I would visit every couple of years and hit him up only to be let down each time. Well the patina was just getting better and better so I wanted it even more each time a saw it. Out of the blue he calls me to make a deal on the truck and it has a catch....... I have to buy it with his 18 foot car hauler! I tell him ok on the phone and we make arrangements for me to go get it 7 hours away. Well when I get there all the tires are flat and they won't even hold air. The trailer tires are all flat but do hold air. He forgot to mention any of this. Thankfully I had thrown 2 truck tires and two trailer tires in the back of the truck "just in case". Got it loaded up with his tractors as there was no way to even get her running to drive up the ramps. So with two tires that held air and some old trailer tires I started the 7 hour drive home. No issues at all and drove it 75 mph most of the way. I figured that I had a couple of spares so I would hope for the best. Got her off the trailer and the real work started. So far I have done the following: Replaced fuel tank Replaced fuel pump Replaced rear wheel cylinder and shoes Installed new battery Installed new wipers Replaced engine oil Fixed air conditioning Added coolant Fixed tailgate latch Installed rear drop springs Cut 3/4 coil from the stock front springs Installed torque thrust wheels and tires Removed headliner cloth Cleaned entire vehicle Installed new exhaust Flushed brake system Added clutch fluid Added floor mats Still need to align it after the drop, install a new heater core, fix headliner, replace broken dash and carpet, fix broken interior parts. It is getting there! I have another work truck my wife affectionately calls the "Turd" and she nicknamed this one "T2". I asked what that meant and she educated me that it was the turd 2! So I love this thing "T2" and drive the heck out of it each weekend. I will upload pictures shortly, having computer issues after writing all this!
