Replacing T-56 six speed with an Auto?
Hey guys, I just bought a nice 1972 stepside. The guy I bought from did most of the work Himself. It has a LS1 from a 2001 SS Camaro with a .598 comp cam and a 6 speed T-56 tranny. Also has a rear end from a 77 town car (If I remember correctly).
Anyway, the thing is completely overpowered in my opinion and I am not a fan of Standard Transmissions. Anyway to tone it down a bit and swap the tranny to something Automatic? Posted via Mobile Device |

Well it's carb'd so you can run pretty much any transmission behind it with not a lot of difficulty.

Well, my preference, would be to row that stick shift! That said, it is your truck... do what you want, & have fun In your spot, I would opt for a 4l80E trans. Set up with the aftermarket controllor....or go full manual shift? You may have to play with the shaft lenght, but talk with Cline barger. He is the guru here on auto trans builds/mods longhorn

You bought a holy grail of manual trans swaps and you want to get rid of it. Amazing. Nice truck though.
