GMC 8500 Cab
This is my first post, My question is, can I take a 1969 GMC 5500 cab and install it on a 1969 8500 chassis? I know that the rear cab mounts and steering column are different. I would appreciate any input on this. Thank you.

Re: GMC 8500 Cab
I have no experience with this particular swap, but tell us more about your 8500.

Re: GMC 8500 Cab
What series is the 5500? If it is a 'C' (basic '67-'72 pickup cab) it probably will not work.

Re: GMC 8500 Cab
It was originally a fire truck for the Navy, I want to make the 8500 into a flat bed truck. I'm told that they are an H(gas) & J(diesel) series-I think. It's got a 478M V6 gas with around 20,000 miles on it. This will be a future project for me. Right now I'm finishing up my 64' Chevy C30 cab and chassis, with the help from a friend of mine, I've replaced some of the floor and inner and outer rockers, cab corners etc.... Just recently painted it and now assembling it.

Re: GMC 8500 Cab
The H is for a Single Axle, J for a Tandem.
But I am puzzled why a Firetruck with only 20,000 Miles would need a new cab, unless I'm not understanding something correctly.

Re: GMC 8500 Cab
Cool to hear about another GMC 8500 firetruck. I have one I was planning on making a winch truck out of, but decided to keep it as a firetruck. I'm a volunteer firefighter in our town and our old parade truck was sold off years ago, so mine will be filling in once it's done. Good luck with the project!
